TAKE NOTICE
that the following nominations have been received in respect to the Municipal Election to be held in the County of Cumberland on Saturday, October 15, 2016.
Qualified electors may vote between 8:00 am and 7:00 pm on Ordinary Polling Day, October 15, 2016 or at an advance poll. The advance polls will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2016 and on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 between the hours of 12:00 noon and 8:00 pm.

2nd Annual Energy Symposium

Energy Symposium had approximately 400 participants attend 2 day event
The Cumberland Energy Authority's 2nd Annual Energy Symposium theme of Bringing the Green Energy Sector was truly achieved with representation from all three levels of government, developers, industry, researchers, NSCC students, approximately 150 high school students, and countless residents. There is no doubt that this event continues to grow, with the Energy Symposium providing almost 400 participants with the opportunity to discover the vast and diverse renewable energy sector, while also highlighting the exciting opportunities right here in Cumberland County!
The Cumberland Energy Authority would like to thank all of those who helped to once again make this event a success!

Construction Update - September 30, 2016
Work continues on the Pugwash Water Supply System resulting in various road closures in the Village of Pugwash. The Municipality of the County of Cumberland, the Village of Pugwash, WSP Engineering and Dexter Construction have provided a construction update of the work being undertaken in the weeks ahead.

2016 Property Tax Rebate for Seniors
|
|
Program designed to help eligible seniors remain in their home
This program, administered by Service Nova Scotia on behalf of the Department of Community Services, is designed to help eligible seniors remain in their homes by providing them with an annual rebate on their municipal property taxes.
The program provides eligible homeowners with a 50% rebate of the actual residential municipal property taxes paid the previous year, up to a maximum of $800.00 per year. The rebate is always based on the property taxes paid in the previous year.

The Joggins Fossil Institute is pleased to announce the selection of its first visual artist for the ArtScape Artist-In-Residence Program. Sophie Jaillet's project STILL was selected from eighteen submissions from across Canada and from Ireland, New York and Serbia.

Help bust barriers across Canada with the Access4All Program!
To celebrate Canada's 150th birthday, and the 30th anniversary of the Rick Hansen Man In Motion World Tour, the Foundation has launched the Access4All program to inspire and empower youth and community leaders across the country to create a more inclusive and accessible Canada by completing what we're calling "
Barrier Buster Projects.
"
With the participation of the Government of Canada, the Foundation will provide a minimum of 50 Barrier Buster grants to schools and community groups to help complete these Barrier Buster projects in communities all across the country.

The Community Health Boards (CHB) of Nova Scotia, through the Wellness Funds, support non-profit groups in developing healthy communities. Wellness Funds support projects addressing local community health plan priorities and the social determinants of health, such as income, education, social supports, early childhood development, etc. These funds are provided by the Department of Health and Wellness.

Are you an energetic person who values physical activity and enjoys working with children and youth? The YMCA of Cumberland is recruiting 14 After School Program Facilitators in 9 different schools in Cumberland County for the 2016-2017 school year. The YMCA will hire 2 leaders for each school to facilitate the after school program. We are looking for passionate, energetic, mature leaders with an interest in developing leadership skills to lead our programs. The programs will be physical activity-focused, with elements of play, self-leadership and teamwork. The programs take place directly after school and we are looking for leaders who want to be a part of a dynamic team.

Export Development Education Program
Nova Scotia Business Inc., in partnership with the Nova Scotia Association of CBDCs, presents the Export Development Education Program. This program was developed to provide Nova Scotia companies with direct
access to export education and resources throughout the province and to encourage companies - whether they are curious about exporting, new exporters, or looking to expand their business into new markets - to explore a plan to move forward.
The goal of the Export Development Education Program is to raise awareness about the benefits of exporting and promote the business support available to the business community in the province.

Wallace Fire Station Grand Opening
The Wallace Volunteer Fire Department held the Grand Opening of their new Fire Station on Saturday, October 1. Over 100 people came to visit, tour the new hall and snack on bbq, treats, and cake.

Randy's Wrenches shares opening day with charity
Randy's Wrenches, a Leamington-based auto shop, held its official opening on Friday, September 30. It marked the occasion with a 50/50 draw which saw the business donate $197 to the LA Animal Shelter.
Deputy Warden Ernie Gilbert would like to congratulate Randy's Wrenches on their opening day and to recognize their generous donation to the LA Animal Shelter.
