Message From the Executive Director of SBCCOG
There are many good reasons to become a Volunteer with South Bay Cities Council of Governments at its South Bay Environmental Services Center. Besides getting to be a part of our organization, volunteers help with projects and at events which make the South Bay a more sustainable place to live, work, and play. Some examples of what our volunteers do is attend community outreach events with staff, prepare information kits for outreach events, and assist with general office support. Additionally, our volunteers receive training on energy efficiency, water conservation, and other sustainable practices as well as having the opportunity to tour regional facilities. In this month's newsletter, there is an article about the volunteers' tour of Metro's Los Angeles Union Station. And, they all took the SilverLine Bus from the Harbor Gateway Transit Center to get there.
At the SBCCOG's SBESC, we are also getting ready for our Annual Volunteer Recognition Reception on November 16. We take Thanksgiving month to let our volunteers know how much we appreciate their work which allows us to expand what we can do to serve the South Bay cities, their residents and businesses.

Electrifying SoCal's Transportation for a Clean Energy Future
Driving to distant places as far as Santa Barbara - about 120 miles - is part of Leah Moreno and her team's job. She is glad she bought an electric vehicle she can plug-in to at various work locations during meetings and be ready for her drive home.
As manager of
Southern California Edison's Transportation Electrification
group, part of the team's work includes managing the design and construction of the utility's electric vehicle infrastructure, like those that feed into these charging stations, for the entire 50,000 square miles of territory.

Volunteers Tour Union Station via Metro's Silverline
October has been an exciting month for SBCCOG Volunteers. SBCCOG staff along with the Volunteers met at the Harbor Gateway Transit Center to catch the Silverline to receive a special tour of Los Angeles Union Station conducted by Metro staff executive Kenneth E. Pratt. Mr. Pratt regaled the group with historical facts and updates on historic restoration projects that have been undertaken since Metro purchased Union Station in 2011. The group learned that a recent lighting upgrade project, switching out old lighting to LED's throughout Union Station, provided Metro enough energy and cost savings to enable the
purchase of a state of the art energy efficient heating and air conditioning system for the station.
