True Story:
At pick up time, a four and a half year old camper and I found ourselves sitting together on a bench near the ball field while his mom and dad talked to a counselor. The following was our conversation:
Me:
So today's your last day of camp - this summer. What'd you think of BDC?
Camper: It was awesome!
Me: That's great! What's one thing you really liked?
Camper: Well, I learned to swim in your pool.
Me: Really? That's amazing! What was that like?
Camper: Well, I went way down under water -- and then I would shoot up to the sky, really fast!
Me: That sounds super fun!
Camper: Yeah. I didn't feel like a child.
Me: No? What'd you feel like?
Camper: I felt like a SUPERHERO!
There it is folks. The power of camp in one conversation! I marvel at how incredible it is for a nearly five year old child, to finish a few weeks at summer camp and head into Kindergarten feeling like a SUPERHERO. Life doesn't get any better than that!
