Halloween Science is back at the Institute!

Join us Sat. Oct. 27 from 2:30 – 5:00pm or 6:30 – 9:00pm, or Sun. Oct. 28 from 11:30am – 2:00pm as we investigate the science behind Halloween through demonstrations, hands-on activities, and more. Halloween Science features experiences for all ages, a haunted roller coaster ride in the Acheson Planetarium , and a visit from the zany Dr. Kelp. Tickets for pre-registered attendees are $10 for members and $15 for the general public. Walk-up tickets are $18, and availability is not guaranteed. Global Warming Demystified

Do you have questions about the science or reality of global warming? Now is your chance to have your questions answered about the science, the consequences, and the solutions with Astrophysicist and author, Jeffrey Bennett, a teacher of global warming for more than 30 years and past winner of the American Institute of Physics Science Communication Award. The presentation is suitable for middle school age and up, and draws from Dr. Bennett’s book, “A Global Warming Partner.” The event is Wed., Oct. 10 from 7:00 – 8:30pm and is free for anyone to attend. Gem, Mineral & Fossil Show

As presenting sponsor of the 74 ^th Annual Greater Detroit Gem, Mineral & Fossil Show, hosted by the Michigan Mineralogical Society, we invite you to explore the geological history of the Great Lakes Oct. 12-14 at Macomb Community College in Warren. There is something at the show for everyone in the family. Adults will enjoy the impressive collections of gems, minerals, and fossils, and children can pan for gold, dig for fossils, and get their photo taken in front of the jaws of the giant Megalodon or the dinosaur Kosmoceratops. Da Vinci Machines and Robotics open through Jan. 13, 2019

Visitors to Da Vinci Machines and Robotics , presented by PNC Bank, will have the unique opportunity to touch, handle, and even operate more than 60 dynamic machines, developed from original Da Vinci drawings, including marvelous flying machines, nautical, hydraulic, and architectural innovations, groundbreaking advancements in civil engineering, and incredible war machines.
