Announcing the 2019 Gold Humanism Scholars at the Harvard Macy Institute
The Arnold P. Gold Foundation is delighted to announce two 2019 Gold Humanism Scholars at the Harvard Macy Institute. Reeni A. Abraham, MD of University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, pictured at top, will be focusing on “Reflection Rounds Curriculum Quality Improvement Project." Dimitrios Papanagnou, MD of Thomas Jefferson University, will be focusing on “Fostering Provider Resilience and Empathic Patient Care in the Emergency Department." In addition, Gregory S. Cherr, MD, FACS, Associate Professor and Assistant Dean for GME at Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences – University at Buffalo, and 2012 Gold Humanism Scholar, will join the program as a faculty member and mentor.

The Gold Foundation is heading to Texas for the Association of American Medical Colleges' annual Learn Serve Lead conference. The Gold Foundation will be hosting a number of events, i ncluding a Gold Humanism Honor Society workshop and the Jordan J. Cohen Humanism in Medicine Thought Leadership Session, given this year by Dr. George Thibault, Gold Board member and immediate past President of the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation.

Call for nominees: 2019 Pearl Birnbaum Hurwitz Humanism in Healthcare Award
If you know a remarkable woman who fosters humanism in the healthcare arena and has advanced, through her scholarship, advocacy, leadership or work, the well-being of vulnerable or underserved populations, nominate her today to receive the 2019 Pearl Birnbaum Hurwitz Humanism in Healthcare Award. Our 2018 awardee was Dinali Fernando, MD, MPH, Medical Director of the Libertas Center for Human Rights, a program of the Emergency Department at Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, New York, which has been at the forefront of working with survivors of torture and human rights violations.

The Gold Humanism Honor Society launches Veterans Gold Health Initiative
The Gold Humanism Honor Society will be launching its 2018-2019 National Project this Veterans Day! The "Veterans Gold Health Initiative" is a Quality Improvement Project designed to help address healthcare disparities through the identification of veteran status and associated risk. The project's goal is to encourage physicians to identify patients who are veterans and provide effective healthcare. GHHS will provide complimentary stickers and poster/banner templates for this new initiative. We believe that by embracing this project GHHS can help strengthen the community care provided to America’s veterans.  Learn more about our new initiative and let us know if you already have plans.

The Gold Foundation sparkles at Planetree's 40th Anniversary Conference
The Gold Foundation had a great time connecting with friends and partners alike earlier this month in Boston at Planetree's 40th Anniversary International Conference on Person-Centered Care. Multiple sessions featured Gold Foundation representatives, including a talk by Dr. Rich Levin, Gold Foundation President & CEO's session, and a joint presentation on Tell Me More® strategies with Gold Corporate Council member Quest Diagnostics, and much more. We also celebrated the work of Dr. Dinali Fernando, shown at left between Dr. Levin and Dr. Sandra Gold, who was awarded the 2018 Pearl Birnbaum Hurwitz Humanism in Healthcare Award.
