October 2018 Prayers
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

Week 1: October 1-8
Pray for the people affected by the earthquake in Indonesia , which killed hundreds in initial estimates with the expectation of a much higher death toll. Pray for rescuers and relief workers and pray for comfort for people who lost loved ones.

Pray for the people still recovering from massive storms in September: Hurricane Florence in the U.S. and two typhoons in the Philippines. 
Week 2: October 9-16
October 11 is the International Day of the Girl Child . Prayers of thanks for work focusing on empowering girls and helping them stay in school to prepare for a brighter future. 

October 16 is World Food Day . Prayers of thanks for the work of Bread for the World providing advocacy resources on hunger issues from a Christian perspective. See Bread’s Faith in Action Kit
Week 3: October 17-23
Prayers of thanks for the launch of a medical school at Uganda Christian University (UCU). UCU received its first group of students in August. The launch of the school comes after much prayer, planning and work. We pray for a smooth start for the students and faculty.

Pray for greater understanding of harmony between faith and science. Prayers of thanks for the focus of CCIH members on evidence-based work motivated by our Christian faith. More about the history of the relationship between faith and science 
Week 4: October 24-31
Pray for the attendees, speakers and organizers of OneAccord 2018 , October 29-31. May their time together strengthen their work as Christians working in development and relief, and rejuvenate their spirits.

Praise for the work of Life Rise AIDS Resources and a recent training manual to help groups share the four most important messages about HIV to Prevent, Test, Treat and Protect from contracting HIV.  See the manual
