2018 Art After Dark Gala a Brilliant Success!
On September 22, under a beautiful night sky, Summit Public Art celebrated its 15th anniversary with a rooftop gala and fundraiser.

From the lively crowd of art appreciators to the delicious food, captivating music, and charming (and very entertaining) auctioneer, Summit Public Art's 2018 Art After Dark Gala was truly a night to remember for all who attended.

Highlights of the evening were raising funds for current and future public art installations, RAMP UP (SPA artist mentorship program for Summit High School students) and auctioning of art work by artist Emil Alzamora and Jorge Wellesley.
Tijana Hitchon, Melanie Cohn, Debi Schwarzmann, Vivian Furman Rubin, Estelle Fournier, of Summit Public Art, with art by Jorge Wellesley.
As a result of the generosity of our guests and all our sponsors and supporters, art installations can continue to enhance public spaces in Summit and improve the quality of life of all our citizens. Through art we can continue to bring the people of Summit together. Keep your eyes open for our new installations around town, including a large mural in the Spring of 2019 by the Lyric Park.

As for the Gala itself, we believe pictures will tell the story best. For those of you who couldn't make it, you may have missed a great party this year, but we hope to see you at next year's Gala!

New Public Art Installations
"Broadway Boogie" by Jason Peters
Artist Jason Peters installed "Broadway Boogie" at City Hall in September. Says Jason of his work: "Although the work initially disorients the viewer, my sculptures soon give way to a delight of solving the visual puzzles, and enjoying the works' graceful and colorful forms. Ultimately, the total environment becomes part of the experience."

"Broadway Boogie" stays true to his mission. The piece is constructed of carefully assembled paint buckets, and lit with LED lights at night. It makes for a striking and dramatic addition to the courtyard of City Hall.

Color Field by Shelley Parriott
Shelley Parriott added one of her Color Field Sculpture® installations to the Village Green in Summit in September. Shelley describes her vibrant work: "As light passes through the transparency of the sculpture, the atmosphere shifts; shapes that at first glance appear to be solid and corporeal now elude definition."

Viewing this work at different times of day and in different weather provides an ever-changing experience. It's an exciting addition to Summit.
Cloudscape by Kate Dodd
Kate Dodd's work "Cloudscape" adds an element of the ethereal to the fountain.
"Cloudscape" by Kate Dodd graces the space over the fountain in the courtyard beside Mondo and Marigold's. Her work seems to defy gravity. "Kate's installations provide a heightened sensory experience for the viewer\occupant, while reexamining institutional and conventional notions of architecture and its relationship to the environment."
