Announcing: Level 7 Regular Easy to Chew
In response to the many requests for a label and testing method for foods that are “soft” but with no particle size restriction, we are pleased to announce
Level 7 Regular Easy to Chew.
This new subcategory of Level 7 is designed to meet the needs of individuals who do not have dysphagia or increased choking risk but might benefit from softer choices.
We will have detailed descriptors and testing methods documents available soon.
As a preview, here is some information about
Level 7 Regular Easy to Chew:
- It is not a “new level” in the IDDSI framework but is considered a subcategory of Level 7
- The reason it is a subcategory of Level 7 is that it is intended for individuals who do not have swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) or and increased choking risk but may require softer foods for other reasons (choice, recent illness, temporary mouth or jaw pain).
- This level is suitable for individuals who have the ability to regulate bite size and their pace of eating and do not exhibit mealtime behaviors that might increase their choking risk
- Foods should be soft and tender and can be cut or separated easily with the side of a fork or spoon.
- Foods do not need to be cut or presented in any specific particle size.
Results from our survey are being prepared for publication submission – stay tuned...

IDDSI IN THE WORLD OF PEDIATRICS
|
IDDSI Board Members were very pleased to be invited to provide a workshop on the IDDSI framework and implementation at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on October 24, 2018. In addition to onsite participants from Holland Bloorview and other local pediatric facilities, there were 18 additional pediatric sites from around Ontario that joined by Telehealth technology for the workshop. We are very excited about the potential implementation of the IDDSI across this large pediatric network. Our thanks to the Feeding Team and management at Holland Bloorview for the support and organization of this event.

SOURCING IDDSI FLOW TEST SYRINGES IN THE UK AND EUROPE
We are aware that currently, 10 ml syringes of the correct size are difficult to obtain in the UK and Europe.
IDDSI is working hard on finding a longer term solution. In the interim, if you live in the UK or Europe,
we recommend you contact your thickener representative regarding obtaining syringes
