Presidential Search Process Update
|
The word "interim" has to do with being in between or until a certain event happens. In the case of Pan Am, that event is the finding and hiring of the school's next President. My role is to manage things until that happens.
The first meeting of the
Pan Am Presidential Search Committee took place on October 22. Rev. Judy Fletcher, a former Trustee and retired Executive of the Synod of the Sun, was elected to serve as chair of the search committee, along with the following members:
- F. Clark Williams, Jr. - Alum (Class of 1969), Nashville, TN
- Dr. Michael Miller - Former Trustee, Wimberley, TX
- Mr. Ken Telg - Current Trustee, College Station, TX
- Mrs. Reili Cantu - Faculty Member, Kingsville, TX
- Mrs. Rebecca Perkins - Faculty Member, Kingsville, TX
The committee's first task is to clarify a position description and the characteristics the school is seeking for leadership going into the future. They will then put in place the means to seek candidates for consideration and ultimately propose a name to the Board of Trustees. Their timeline is open because they have been instructed to take the time to get it right rather than trying to get it done. Please keep this group in prayer as they undertake this important task in securing the next leader for our beloved school.
When that person arrives at Pan Am, the “event” that gave rise to my Interim title will have happened, and I will head home with joy for the time I shared with you!
Warmly,
Mr. Kim E. Warner
Interim President

Fun for All - Happy Fall!
|
Each year we open our campus to the local community for an evening of family fun at our
Fall Festival. For the 14th year in a row, on Friday, October 18, out students dressed up in costumes and staffed the various food and game booths. Not only did they enjoy interacting with our guests, there was also time for our students to participate in the fun, too.
While this autumn tradition serves as the biggest fundraiser of the year for our various student organizations, it also connects our international students with their in-town neighbors - providing one more opportunity for our students to practice their English skills and experience some of our U.S. (and South Texas) culture.

Our
One Act Play
students are DISTRICT CHAMPIONS! They earned 1st Place honors at the TAPPS Division 3 District 3 One Act Play Contest on Saturday, October 26 in Boerne, TX for their performance of "Lily Plants a Garden" by Jose Cruz Gonzalez.
Seniors Almi Cabanzo and Bifeng Xiao, and junior Jacob Lei received All Star Cast Awards. Senior Samiel Pineda received the All Star Crew Award, and Sarah Hernandez and Ismael Trujillo received Honorable Mention All Star Cast.
This hardworking group of theater students, under the direction of Mr. Rick Saenz, will now advance to the TAPPS State competition in Kerrville, TX on November 6-7 with high hopes of bringing back the title of State Champions, last earned in 2016. Break a leg, Eagles!

A Celebration of Cultures

This year’s
International Banquet once again delighted students, staff, and members of our Board of Trustees. On Friday, September 27 the annual event featured home-cooked food from students' family recipes, traditional costumes, and musical and dance performances. Students and guests also enjoyed a special flag presentation, which provided a unique opportunity to honor and learn more about each of the 9 countries represented in this year's student body.

PPAS students and high school students from 8 surrounding school districts had a jump start on determining their college/career path at our 2nd annual
College Fair. On Wednesday, October 9, the Harte Student Center was transformed into a one-stop college shop with representatives from over 20 colleges, universities, and organizations gathered together in one central location to provide information about the programs they offer and to answer questions from students.
In addition to bringing these representatives to our students, the college fair, organized by Principal Ellie Perez also provides exposure to our school in the local community, along with an opportunity for our students to engage with other high school students in the area. We look forward to continuing to grow this event each year!

We've Got Spirit, Yes We Do!
|
October 10th was the perfect day for PPAS' annual
Homecoming festivities, complete with a pep rally in the morning and a senior blessing and bonfire in the evening. Our awesome Eagle Cheerleaders and mascot, Iggy, performed a dance and led the students in a spirit competition. And, athletes from the fall sports (volleyball, cross-country, and boys' soccer) were recognized.
The sophomores upset the upperclassmen in the spirit competition, but the juniors got revenge in the toilet paper game (where they successfully wrapped Ms. Niki in a race against the other classes). To cap off the evening, the 2019 Homecoming Court was announced with seniors
Fidel Canseco and
Regina Cano
taking home the "King and Queen" honors.
