County vote centers in place for Election Day
This November, registered Comal County voters can cast ballots on Election Day wherever they live, work or play.
The Texas Secretary of State’s Office has approved Comal County for countywide vote centers, a program removing the requirement that voters cast Election Day ballots at the polling place designated for their voting precinct.
The change means Election Day now will function like early voting, which sees no changes under the program. Voters registered in Comal County can cast ballots at any vote center in the county.
Election Day is Nov. 5. The voter-registration deadline is Oct. 7, and early voting takes place Oct. 21-Nov. 1. Commissioners Court has approved six early voting locations and 13 Election Day vote centers.

Burn ban still in effect as Comal dries out
Comal County has become one of the driest counties in Texas, as a hot and dry summer has turned into a hot and dry fall.
A ban on outdoor burning remains in effect, prohibiting outdoor flames of any kind except barbecue grills that are set off the ground and have a lid. Anyone grilling or welding outside should be extremely careful and have a water source handy in case things get out of hand.

Flu shots available from Public Health
The 2019-2020 flu season began Oct. 1, and the Comal County Office of Public Health has vaccines available.
Influenza cases have already been reported in the county – and at least one case of flu has been reported every month since last fall.
“Vaccination is the best step anyone can take to avoid getting the flu,” said Cheryl Fraser, director of public health for Comal County. “Everyone at least 6 months old should be immunized as soon as possible so they can be protected against the virus.”
