District 7610
Connections
October 2019
|
|
People of Action,
District 7610 has had a busy month. Thanks to PI Chair Dave Borowki and Social Media Chair Diane Hill, we have implemented a new outward facing district Facebook page, an Instagram account to communicate to younger audiences, and a twitter account to reach local businesses and others who can play a vital role in
growing Rotary.
|
One of our biggest accomplishments is the work of Senior Advisor Jim Holcombe to create a virtual operating manual for the district that will support our philosophy of being transparent and consistent.
|
In the first quarter of the Rotary year, we have seen our membership grow to nearly 60 new members, three new NXT/satellite clubs have been formed, and diversity of our membership has been flourishing.
September ushered in my club visits in earnest and I have truly enjoyed meeting Rotarians from across our district and learning about the impact our clubs are having in our local communities and around the world.
In the coming weeks, you will hear from our diversity and inclusion committee as they lay out their plan of action to attract and retain the very best potential members. In the coming days, you will also hear from our conference planning committee about what is in store for the 7610 District conference in April 2020.
Fellow Rotarians keep up the great work and I look forward seeing you during one of my club visits in the near future!
Yours in Rotary Service,
Jonathan

On Sept. 24, the Fairfax County government issued a proclamation:
“Be it resolved that the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, on behalf of all residents of Fairfax County, does hereby proclaim Thursday, October 24, 2019, as Polio Awareness Day in Fairfax County and urges all residents to support Rotary International and its partners to immunize children of the world against polio.”
PDG Ronnie read a statement to the board about Rotary International’s work on Polio eradication and the general good works performed by Rotarians of

On September 14, a Rotary Foundation Seminar was held at the University of Mary Washington Campus in Stafford County. During the seminar, a large "End Polio Now" was made available for attendees to sign. As you can see from the photos below, many of the seminar attendees availed themselves of the opportunity. Thanks to Dave Borowski, here are some of the photos from that event.

District Governor, Jonathan Lucas and Club President, Tom Carlson (Center of the Back Row) along with Satellite Club Chair David Pierce (Right) are depicted along with the nine Charter Members of the new Rappahannock-Rotary Satellite Club.

With opening remarks from District Governor Jonathan Lucas, the Rappahannock-Fredericksburg was pleased to induct the first nine members into their newly-formed Satellite Club on October 9th. The club has decided to have regularly scheduled meeting at 5:30 pm on the third Thursday of each month, and they will also convene on at least one occasion each month to take part in a Community Service Project. The nine new members are very enthusiastic about their new roles in the Fredericksburg community, and the Rotarians in the parent Rappahannock-Fredericksburg Club are ready and willing to assist in their new roles as mentors and leaders as this new phase in our club's history evolves.
Special thanks to David Pierce who will serve as the Chair for the Satellite Club and provide a link to the parent club.

Tyson's Turkey Trot
By Suzanne McDougall, Tyson's Corner

The Tysons Rotary Club will hold the first annual 5K Turkey Trot on Sunday, November 17. Our Host Sponsor is Lerner. The start/finish will be at Lerner’s Central Park Tysons II (1775 Tysons Blvd). Tysons Metro Station is nearby. The purpose of the race (which is a Run/Walk event) is to raise funds for the Tysons Rotary Foundation and to begin to build a community in the currently developing Tysons area.
We invite District Rotary Clubs to participate by running, walking, sponsoring, or volunteering for this first ever event for our club. The Turkey Trot is a Certified Run managed by Potomac River Runner, which administers events like this in the Northern Virginia area.
Registration is $35 until on-line registration closes on November 15 at 8:00 pm. During packet pick up on November 16 and race day on November 17, the cost will be $40.
There will be cash prizes for the first three overall Male and Female finishers. Participants can register on-line at
www.tysonscorner5k.com
.
Questions regarding sponsorships or volunteers can be directed to Laurie Kent at
[email protected]
or on the tysonscorner5K website.
