A Message from the Director

A couple of great initiatives took place in the month of October that we were proud to be a part of.  EPICentre  participated in the week-long showcase of all things in tech, TECH WEEK YQG, led by  WEtech  Alliance. What a great week to showcase the talented entrepreneurs and innovations in the region! In celebration of Women Entrepreneurship Week, we hosted a panel discussion consisted of three amazing local young female entrepreneurs.   
On November 8 th  and 9 th , we will be hosting the 4 th   RBC EPIC Business Model Canvas Competition  where twelve semi-finalist teams from all across Ontario  have been selected to  compete for the top prize of $10,000. We would like to invite you to come watch the  final pitch  on November 9 th  
On November 22 nd , we will be hosting the 3 rd   New Kids on the Blockchain Symposium  in partnership with School of Computer Science, Cross Border Institute, and Office of Research and Innovation Services. For the first time, we will  also  host two  hands-on workshops  on November 23 rd  where attendees will learn how to make a blockchain application.   
Last but not least we would like to welcome Paul Brereton to  EPICentre's  team. Paul is a recent graduate of  EPICentre  and Odette School of Business. Paul will be helping  EPICentre  research and implement two new programs, the EPIC Female Founder in Tech program and the NextGen CTO program, funded by the  FedDev  Ontario in the new year. Stay tuned for details  on  these exciting programs and opportunities.

Our newest cohort of changemakers in the Libro-EPIC Social Enterprise program have taken over our innovation space! The four start-ups moved in on August 1st and hit the ground running. Women Entrepreneurship Week

More than 200 universities and colleges in 30 countries hosted Women Entrepreneurship Week on October 19-26, 2019. This week was comprised of panel discussions, workshops, seminars, and conferences - events of all kinds - to highlight trailblazing women entrepreneurs from all disciplines. Our focus at EPICentre was to highlight young women entrepreneurs that have participated in EPICentre programs and activities, as well as, recent graduates from the University of Windsor.. Read More

EPICentre-based Tourism Incubator 
Expands Across Ontario

The Ontario Tourism Innovation Lab is a non-profit initiative that was created to find, foster and support new tourism ideas, experiences and partnerships, and to build a community of tourism innovators and entrepreneurs in Ontario.

Launched as a pilot in Windsor Essex in 2018, the Lab and its "Spark" Mentorships & Grants Program are expanding to new regions across the province in 2019-20, including Bruce County, Chatham-Kent, Northeastern Ontario, Sarnia-Lambton.

The Lab is a program of Hackforge, a non-profit technology organization, and is based at the University of Windsor - EPICentre. The initiative was recently selected as a finalist for the 2019 Ontario Tourism Innovator of the Year Award, the winner to be announced at the Ontario Tourism Summit in Blue Mountain on October 30th.  Learn More

3 rd  New Kids on the Blockchain 
Symposium & Workshops  

During the session, attendees will have the opportunity to gain an introductory understanding of blockchain technology, followed by in-depth discussions on blockchain applications in different areas and a panel discussion. Learn from expert speakers from various industries on how blockchain technology is being applied in their businesses in this year's topic "Transformation to Decentralized System: The Future of Blockchain at your Workplace".

EPIC Student Ambassador Program
The EPIC Student Ambassador Program kicked off this past September with our fall cohort. 5 Ambassadors from multidisciplinary faculties are currently working towards planning an event that will not only help build their resume skill but also grow their network. We would love for you to join our growing team and help make this event the best one yet!

Proteus Innovation Competition Launch

The University of Windsor will be participating in the Proteus Innovation Competition, a three part competition that will challenge individuals to create a viable commercialization strategy for 1 of 3 promising technologies, in hopes of winning a cash prize of up to $5,000! The Launch party for the competition will be hosted in the EPICentre workshop room and also livestreamed at Western University in London, and McMaster University in Hamilton on November 20th, from 3-5pm.

Call for Leaders to Present at the 
Lancer Leadership Conference 2020

The LLC 2020 theme is Leadership and YOU! The conference encourages applications from faculty, staff, and students at any level from first-year through PhD, in any subject area, with any background. This is an opportunity for you to share your leadership story!
There are two main threads for you to consider:
* Leadership and self-care - how can leaders sustain themselves on their leadership journey?
* Leadership and self-knowledge - how do values, strengths, social identity, and personal style serve to power leadership?

The Queen's Entrepreneurs' Competition 

The QEC is student-run and judged by executives from companies such as Google, CIBC, and Accenture. Located in the heart of Toronto, Ontario, the competition attracts attendees from some of the largest investment firms and corporations. A solution to efficiently access, navigate and/or coordinate the car for individuals (and/or caregivers) in the community experiencing mental illness and addiction in order to improve overall quality of life. 

Spinal Cord Rehab Innovation Challenge Launch

Praxis Spinal Cord Institute  (formerly the Rick Hansen Institute) and  MaRS Discovery District  have partnered to launch the Spinal Cord Rehab Innovation Challenge - a competition aimed at identifying technologies that enable measurement of rehabilitative interventions and health outcomes  for those living with spinal cord injury (SCI). Learn More
