At the September 11, 2019 meeting, President Amy Shelley was recognized for her commitment to our Chapter and her leadership over the past year. We thank Amy for her dedication to our Chapter and for serving on our Board for five years. Her warm and friendly presence truly made our chapter stronger. She is a true professional and we thank her for all her hard work.

SEPTEMBER 2019 MEETING RECAP
|
Thank you to Kim Sutter, Lindsay Wells and the City of Euless for hosting our September meeting at the Texas Star Golf course in Euless. The food and room were amazing, and the door prizes were outstanding especially the nameplate - “Chaos Coordinator”.
Mayor Linda Martin welcomed NTMCA to Euless and spoke highly of the City Secretary position and the important role the City Secretary has in municipal government. She referred to the City Secretary as the “Chief of Staff”, as the City Secretary is all knowing. Our guest speaker was TMCA President Kim Sutter. Her presentation included highlights of her current term as TMCA president including her goal of visiting each chapter before the end of the year. She presented information about TMCA boards and committees and encouraged everyone to serve. She gave an overview of the new
Municipal Clerk’s Office Achievement of Excellence Award program and application requirements (Link).
She recommended that everyone work to develop and strengthen relationships with peers by mentoring, being mentored, encouraging, supporting and networking with other members.

TMCA President Kim Sutter provided the Oath of Office to the incoming Board members. She added a little flare to each board member presentation by giving them a colored handkerchief and spoke about the meaning of each color. These colors are beautiful individually but when united, they shine brighter, stronger and their message can stretch beyond our chapter.

For the last 3 years we’ve been so close to expanding our membership to 100 members. Last year, we were just three members short! Our membership includes professionals that work with records management, human resources, Municipal Court, legislative issues, building operations and the City Manager’s Office, so be sure to encourage colleagues in your city and neighboring cities to join us for an experience that’s valuable and enjoyable.

GET TO KNOW YOUR NTMCA OFFICERS FOR FY 2019-2020

Monica Solko, President:
Monica has served the Chapter as Historian, Treasurer and Vice President. Additionally, she has served on the Holiday Committee and Technology Committee. Monica received her TRMC certification in 2009 and has completed her second recertification in 2019. Monica also holds a Certified Municipal Clerk designation and is working on her Certified Public Manager designation. She has been the City Secretary for the City of Lake Worth for 2 ½ years, previously serving the City of North Richland Hills for 11 ½ years and the City of Odessa for 3 ½ years.
Traci Henderson, Vice President:
Traci has served the Chapter as Treasurer. Additionally, she has served on the Alyce Deering Scholarship Committee for two years and Municipal Clerk of the Year Committee. Traci received her TRMC designation in 2011 and has completed her first recertification. Traci has been the Assistant City Secretary in North Richland Hills for 2 ½ years, previously serving the City of Southlake for 4 years and the City of Stephenville for 7 years.
Erika McComis, Treasurer:
Erika has served the Chapter as Historian. Additionally, she has served on the Holiday Committee for 4 years, 2 of those as the committee chair. Erika received her TRMC designation in 2017 and is currently working on her first recertification. Erika received her Certified Municipal Clerk designation in 2017 as well. She has been the Town Secretary and HR Director for Argyle for almost 1 year. Prior to that, she served as the City Secretary of Bridgeport for 3 ½ years and as the Police Administrative Manager for almost 15 years.
Dianna Buchanan, Secretary:
Dianna has previously served on the Budget Committee. She received her TRMC designation in 2018 and is working to achieve the CMC designation as well as her first recertification. Dianna has served the City of Haslet since October 2012 as City Secretary/Administrative Services Director and previously served as the City Secretary/City Administrator of the Town of Lakeside. She has over 19 years of experience in municipal government operations.
Tammy Dixon, Historian:
Tammy has served as Chairperson of the Alyce Deering Scholarship Committee for two years. She received her TRMC certification in 2014 and completed her first recertification in 2019. Tammy also holds a Certified Municipal Clerk designation and is working towards her Master Municipal Clerk certification. She has been the Town Secretary for the Town of Bartonville for 8 years, previously serving in the City of Frisco for one year and the Town of Flower Mound for 9 years.

October Graduate Institute - President's Celebration
TMCA President Kim Sutter has done an excellent job and has dedicated countless hours during her presidency. She is selfless and is first to offer a hand, share knowledge, connect a new city secretary with a mentor and advocate for our profession. As her presidency winds down, we would like you to join us in celebrating her service and leadership. A reception celebrating President Sutter will be held on Thursday, October 24, following the banquet at Graduate Institute in Fort Worth. We hope you can join us for a night of dancing and fellowship.

The Annual NTMCA Holiday Luncheon is set for Thursday, December 12th, at Keller Pointe, located at 405 Rufe Snow Drive in Keller.
Please mark your calendar and plan on attending this special occasion.
The committee is now accepting Silent Auction items. Remember the Silent Auction benefits the Alyce Deering Scholarship Fund. This fund is an excellent way to give back to NTMCA and offers assistance for someone to attend one of the TMCA educational seminars. Examples of donations for the Silent Auction can be gift cards, gift baskets, a certificate for a service or membership, craft items, etc. Your donations may be submitted to any of the Holiday Committee members: Kelly Ballard, Jillian Cloud, and Lisa Cabrera. You may also contact board liaison Tammy Dixon to give any items for the auction.
