It's time to welcome Fall!

Our exciting updates for this month include the announcement of the keynote speaker at the 2020 Maryland Master Gardener Conference, a new continuing education event about purposeful landscape design, and much more. Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
Continuing Ed Opportunity: Rain Garden Workshop and Plant Swap

Join fellow Master Gardeners, Master Watershed Stewards, and Columbia homeowners with a rain garden for a plant swap and rain garden workshop! We will cover a refresher on Rain Gardens 101, how to choose the best plants for your site, and where to find further resources.
A rain garden plant swap will follow the workshop.
Registration for the workshop is $5 per person and the plant swap is free to take part in. If you would like to attend both, choose one of each ticket types when you register.
Continuing Ed Opportunity: Living Architecture Lecture

Join us for this guest lecture from  Furbish , the company who designed and installed green walls at both Stamp Student Union and McKeldin Library! Furbish innovates and develops living systems, primarily green roofs and green walls, to benefit the built environment. They deploy natural systems, which make economic sense for every building, to improve our health and the environment.
Learn from these experts how you can utilize green walls, green roofs, and vertical gardens in your community.
Bay-Wise Landscape Management Advanced Training
October 26 and November 2, 2019 | Cockeysville | $0 - $50
Join Baltimore County Master Gardeners for a Bay-Wise Landscape Management Advanced Training. All Master Gardeners are welcome, including those already certified (but would like to attend for a refresher). Previously certified Bay-Wise Master Gardeners do not have to pay the registration fee but must register to attend. Space is limited; priority will be given to first-time attendees. You must attend both days. October 26 and November 2, 2019, from 9:30 am - 3:30 pm.
New Continuing Ed Opportunity: Designing With Purpose

Kelley Oklesson is the founder and principal of  Groundsmith Collective , a local design studio based in Hyattsville, Maryland. Her studio provides conscientious landscape design services with a focus on promoting responsible social and environmental change. Kelley has ten years of experience in the landscape architecture field focused on identifying, facilitating, designing, and managing and inspiring assortment of sustainable projects. The design studio lives by the words of though leader Mickey Fearn, "innovation, creativity, and systemic solutions grow in the gaps between the disciplines." Kelley's true passion is to discover and reveal opportunities for supporting environmental kinship while building relationships between people through the design experience.
Grow It Eat It 2020: Year of Beneficial Bugs
This year in Grow It Eat It, we are celebrating the little creatures that help us grow what we like to eat! Whether they're pollinating our plants so they develop those delicious fruits or devouring those pesky insects that want to eat our produce before we do, we couldn't grow much to eat without the assistance of beneficial bugs.

We announced the return of the Maryland Master Gardener Conference last month, and we are excited to share that our keynote speaker will be Dr. Allan Armitage !

Did you know that the University of Maryland had its first class of students in 1859 as the Maryland Agricultural College? University Libraries created a new interactive story map showing how UMD came to be the University that we all know, love, and serve today!
