A Farewell from Pastor Keith Pearson
"Seven years ago on October 1, 2012 I walked through the doors here at Peace for the first time as your Senior Pastor. It has been my honor to serve you all these years.  There have been highs and lows, victories and stumbles, joys and sorrows. I have presided over 28 weddings, 75 baptisms, 156 confirmations and 49 funerals. I have presided in or assisted with close to 800 worship services. I have spent countless hours with you in your homes, at hospital bed sides, and in the community. I have wept with you when you lost loved ones and I’ve rejoiced with you when new lives were born into the world. We have agreed and disagreed. We have faced challenges together. But God is always on the move, and as God’s people we are always doing our best to follow him. Sometimes our paths converge and for a time we walk together. Other times our paths diverge and we must part ways. This moment is one of the latter. As much as I love you all and would have continued on this path with you a while longer, it seems right to me to listen to God’s calling to accept a new path. And so I have resigned my call here at Peace, effective the end of October. My last Sunday in the pulpit will be Sunday, October 20 th and my last official act as Senior Pastor will be to preside at my daughter Rachel’s wedding on Saturday, October 26 th .
After that I will take up a new call as a Regional field representative of the ELCA Churchwide organization, serving in a support role to ELCA churches in the Northwestern and Southwestern area Synods. So you may occasionally still see my family and I in the community and at large church gatherings, but we will no longer be part of this worshipping community we call Peace.
I hope you can join us one last time on Sunday, October 20 th for worship together, followed by a time of celebration and memories.
I have been honored to serve you all for the last seven years."

Family Promise
Faith’s week of hosting Family Promise will be October 27 through November 3. About four times a year, Faith hosts homeless families in their church. Peace is a supporting congregation in this effort. You can help by becoming a volunteer! There are a number of volunteer jobs available including setting up bedroom spaces, providing a main dish or dessert and eating with the guests, being an evening host or staying overnight at Faith. Each day, guests are driven by van to the Day Center in Willmar where they receive help with job searches and other programming. You don’t need a special license to drive the van to and from Willmar. Other volunteer jobs include taking down beds and doing laundry at the end of the week. If you have questions or would like to volunteer in this program, call Carol Roverud (320) 796-6335. We’ll get you on the volunteer list, see that you receive the brief training needed, and share your first volunteer experience with you if you’d like.

Operation Christmas Child
We will have shoe boxes available in early November for this project which shares small gifts (and the love of God) with children around the world. Filled boxes will be due back at Peace by Sunday, Nov. 24. You may want to start finding items for a box: toothbrushes (multiples allow the child to share with others), combs or brushes, school items (notebooks, pencils, pens, etc. may make it possible for a child to attend school) or a small toy. More information will be available in November.

Sunbeam Mission Trip 2020
We have started planning our annual trip to the Sunbeam Boys Home in Jamaica. Do you had an interest in visiting Sunbeam to really see what draws the Peace Team back every year? Well this is your opportunity, come with us and experience first hand the awesome joy the boys share with us (and the team with the boys) during our week at Sunbeam. The Peace Team will be traveling to Sunbeam January 15-22, 2020.
The week consists of small maintenance projects about the home, cleaning, restocking and food preparation. But most importantly, assisting with homework, devotions, playing and sharing our time and fellowship with the boys. We give out lots of hugs, smiles, time and attention which these boys often yearn for. Youth and adults are welcome.
If you are interested in joining the team, please call Charlie or Cindy Lundberg, (320) 354-4689.
Quote from previous Team Member “We left with prayers of HOPE for the future of the Sunbeam Boys.”

Cana Circle Bible Study
This Bible study began in September and will meet at 1:00 pm each month on the third Thursday. You are invited to join a small group of women in the Fireside Room. We will be using the Bible study published in the Gather magazine (ELCA women’s magazine) and will work through the study together. There will be a few extra copies of the study available as well as information about subscribing. The magazine includes good articles that support the message of the Bible study. Questions? Call Barb Johnson (796-5699) or Carol Roverud (796-6335). The next meeting will be October 17. Hope to see you there!
Mark your calendars for our food packaging with the Norway Lake Parish – Wednesday, November 20th! As in the past, we will be working at First Lutheran of Norway Lake for two shifts that evening. A light supper will be served ($3) and bars will be for sale. This is a great service time for families, adults, confirmation students – everyone! There are three types of food to be packaged; we’ll find out that night what is most needed. Some of the food is delivered to the Kandiyohi County Food Shelf and the rest is sent nationally or internationally as needed. Watch for the sign up poster in the gathering space in November.
Group Bible Study : one thousand gifts

Embark on a personal, honest and fresh exploration of what it means to be deeply fulfilled, wholly happy, and finally fully alive. The study guide (available for purchase) includes video notes, discussion questions and Bible Study, between session activation, and journaling space that will all help you to further explore the topics discussed in the One Thousand Gifts dvd.
We will meet Sundays following worship during education hour (10 a.m. to 11 a.m.) October 6th, 13th, 27th, and November 10th and 17th in the Library.
Turkey Dinner and Silent Auction
We hope you attended the turkey dinner and participated in the silent auction! The meal is always delicious and great items are available on the silent auction. Thanks to all who came to the dinner, worked that night, donated pies or desserts, donated silent auction items or just ate and shopped! Your participation makes it possible for us to raise the $3,500 necessary to purchase our share of the food product needed for the Food for Kidz event in November. We’ll share the total raised in the next newsletter.
We are in the process of updating our database. With our new database, we are able to give you access to your own profile so that you may update and change your information if needed. You will be receiving an email from Church 360 in the near future, THIS IS NOT SPAM.
