“I have had the great pleasure of working closely with the BOLD program and the BOLD 3 class. The BOLD sessions gave me new insight and allowed me to be a part of conversations not many 20-year-olds have the opportunity. I learned so much during these sessions; I feel like I am practically ready to be a board member! I have learned that being on a board is a huge responsibility and can have a tremendous impact. What stood out is as a board member, you have the power to shape the organization, and then the community, to do what is best. BOLD empowers professionals to ensure their time as board members are more about making change and enhancing an organization, instead of just learning and checking off boxes.
My favorite conversations came from the questions that the BOLD 3 class would ask our speakers. During one discussion, someone asked a question that stood out to me, "how is that still a thing? This question was a response to someone pondering how they would know what organization to serve. What mission makes you say how is that still a thing? As a sophomore in college, I have spent hours questioning and discerning what I want to do with my life and career. This simple question made me realize what I have been internalizing for a while but could never put into such parameters. Am I currently working toward that question? Am I working to make an impact on the mission of how is that still a thing?
My time as an honorary BOLD participant was such a thought-provoking experience. I know what I learned will influence my decisions as I step into my professional career. My hope that as you read this reflection, you have been able to reflect on what you were feeling post-BOLD and reignite an inspiration within you to serve.”
