BOLD would not be possible without the generous support of the Elsa Heisel Sule Foundation. Leadership Council sat down with V Ruth Klette for a BOLD discussion and grant ceremony last month.
BOLD Leaders
BOLD Alumni Spotlight - YMCA of Greater Cincinnati
The YMCA of Greater Cincinnati, one of the largest nonprofits in Greater Cincinnati, has a board of 35 individuals. 10% of their board came through the doors of BOLD. This week BOLD had an opportunity to speak with Jorge Perez, President & CEO, and Heather Pfaltzgraff, Director of Administration of the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati. We are working with Heather and Jorge on the BOLD curriculum. Heather shared their new board chair, Roddell McCullough, Senior Vice President of Community Development at First Financial Bank, is a BOLD graduate. We went back into the BOLD database and saw Roddell graduated from the program in 2013. Jack looked up their board of directors and found three more BOLD graduates. They included Kenneth Blewett, Founder of Fast-Cycle X, BOLD graduate in 2017; Matthew Michael, Senior Vice President at KeyBank, BOLD graduate in 2015; Saleel Muzumdar, Finance Group Manager at P&G 2016.

Behind the Scenes of BOLD with Leadership Council Intern Annie Hugenberg
“I have had the great pleasure of working closely with the BOLD program and the BOLD 3 class. The BOLD sessions gave me new insight and allowed me to be a part of conversations not many 20-year-olds have the opportunity. I learned so much during these sessions; I feel like I am practically ready to be a board member! I have learned that being on a board is a huge responsibility and can have a tremendous impact. What stood out is as a board member, you have the power to shape the organization, and then the community, to do what is best. BOLD empowers professionals to ensure their time as board members are more about making change and enhancing an organization, instead of just learning and checking off boxes.

My favorite conversations came from the questions that the BOLD 3 class would ask our speakers. During one discussion, someone asked a question that stood out to me, "how is that still a thing? This question was a response to someone pondering how they would know what organization to serve. What mission makes you say how is that still a thing? As a sophomore in college, I have spent hours questioning and discerning what I want to do with my life and career. This simple question made me realize what I have been internalizing for a while but could never put into such parameters. Am I currently working toward that question? Am I working to make an impact on the mission of how is that still a thing?

My time as an honorary BOLD participant was such a thought-provoking experience. I know what I learned will influence my decisions as I step into my professional career. My hope that as you read this reflection, you have been able to reflect on what you were feeling post-BOLD and reignite an inspiration within you to serve.”
