Self Care
Take My Advice, I Don't Use It
October 7, 2020
10:00 am to 11:00 am

Presented by Channe Fodeman, LCSW
VIA ZOOM
In this short but focused workshop, participants will have an opportunity to define their own self-care and examine how their values and beliefs impact self-care. What gets in the way of self-care for many of us? How can we develop strategies for overcoming the challenges to achieving self-care?

Through discussion and some story telling Channe Fodeman, LCSW will present ideas for creating a plan and clarifying goals. Channe has had a private counseling practice for over 30 years and specializes in life’s transitions and aging issues. She earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of California at Berkeley with a specialization in gerontology. As a long-standing member of NASW/CT, Channe has helped to orchestrate the Fairfield County Private Practice Network meetings since 2010.

Tuesday nights, October 13th - November 17th, 2020
 6:30 PM-8:30 PM
Class takes place virtually on zoom
COURSE IS NOW FREE ON ZOOM!
The medical model (approach) to extreme states; so-called “psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder” and other psychiatric labels, has for much too long dominated the mental health landscape. Now we have alternative views and ways to heal. This course is for all mental health professionals including social workers, counselors and peer support specialists. This course is for anyone interested in finding meanings and understanding of distressing experiences and is relevant for folks with lived experience of the mental health system, to their families, relatives and interested others. In each of 6 sessions we will view and discuss a video and talk about a revolutionary report recently out for the general public (you will get a PDF). We will examine your questions and discuss how these alternatives are coming to CT.

Dear Black Male…
Offered on Zoom Webinar
October 15, 2020
5 pm to 7 pm
Presented by Welcome2Reality

This two-hour workshop will focus on how historical and systemic inequity continues to exist for Black males. Although some of these biases may be unconscious, stereotypes and the misrepresentation of Black males in the media often interferes with their ability to receive fair treatment. Some Black males develop a sense of distrust towards community supports such as law enforcement and mental health providers, which can hinder their willingness to seek and engage in services.
