New book & puzzle news + a Halloween photo contest
And more! Welcome to your October 2020 Library Update from NKCPL.
Good news, readers! Now it's even easier to browse the Library's new titles online. If you go to our catalog page (nkcpl.org > Catalog tab), you'll see new carousels featuring some of the Library's hot-off-the-press titles in a few handy quick-search categories: New Adult Fiction, New Adult Nonfiction, New Movies, and New Children's Fiction. You can scroll through and see at a glance what we've got.

We've also created a New Titles tab at the top of that catalog page. There, you'll find ALL the Library's new items (beyond those carousel picks, even), plus additional, expanded search categories, including Young Adult and Audiobooks. Lots to shop! (And don't forget, we've got an app, too! Search Missouri Evergreen in your device's app store to download our new catalog app.)

Also, take a look at what we have listed under the On Order tab on the catalog home page. These are titles we have pre-purchased that have future publication dates but you can place a request for now. Happy browsing!
Not sure what you're looking for? No worries! You're always welcome to call the Library and ask a staffer to shop for books on your behalf. Just give us a ring and let us know your favorite authors, titles, or general topics, and we'll pull some items we think you'll enjoy. You can pick them up via Curbside! Questions, or ready to get started? Call us at 816.221.3360.
A piece of good news: puzzles for checkout!
Enjoy jigsaw puzzles? This piece (lol) is for you! Now you can use your Library card to check out puzzles. Give us a call and we'll pull one we think you'll like. (We're getting a bunch of new ones soon, too, if you've already worked through our current stash.) Most of our collection consists of 500-piece puzzles, though we do have a handful of 1,000-piecers. Let us know if you have questions! And happy puzzling this fall.
Have littles? We've got tons of fun fall reads!
October Book Walk: Stroll 'n read Mustache Baby!
For this month's bonus (to the third power??) Book Walk story, we’re so pleased to feature Mustache Baby, written by Kansas City author Bridget Heos. Bridget has written more than 100 children's books, including dozens of nonfiction titles. You can stroll and read Mustache Baby along the Library parking lot's perimeter all month long.
Virtually there: Zoom yogas & more @ NKCPL!
While we're continuing to hold off on in-person meetings and events for now, we are offering a handful of new Zoom sessions this month, including Chair Yoga (two Wednesdays this month @ 10 am), Mat Yoga (every Tuesday @ 6:30 pm) and Medicare Explained (on the last Tuesday and last Thursday of this month, and then ditto for awhile). For October class dates and times, and to register, go to nkcpl.org. Once you sign up for a class, keep your eyes peeled for the Zoom link, which we will email separately prior to the event.
Padlet Potluck? Join us online for food tips & talk!
Love to talk about food? Do you love a cookbook as much as a good novel? Join our Padlet Potluck group. Padlet is a platform that lets users have threaded (a.k.a organized) conversations around a given topic. Padlet lets us trade food and cooking tips and tricks, ask questions, share food- and cooking-related photos and videos, and more--all just a little more easily than via email. Are you interested in joining this conversation? Drop me a line (abrown@nkcpl.org) and I'll send you the link. All are welcome at the Library's (Padlet) table! :)
Keep calm and craft on, October 2020 edition
And don't forget! We continue to offer Curbside Crafts. We've got fun kits for littles, available by request, plus a number of kits and activities for older kiddos and/or adults, including a couple of simple sewing projects. We've got a keychain lanyard kit, plus a mask lanyard kit, both of which you'll need a sewing machine (or a needle and thread and a lot of patience!) to complete.

We've also got some CUTE Halloween-themed greeting card kits from crafter Joy Hood. Get 'em while they last! Plus a number of other process art-oriented projects. Call or email abrown@nkcpl.org to reserve your kit or kits today! While supplies last. :)
Have you heard? RBdigital ebooks and audiobooks are now available in the Library’s Overdrive collection. You can find this collection on your phone or device via the Overdrive and Libby apps (and on desktop via nkcpl.org > Missouri Libraries 2 Go). Need help finding or using these apps? Give us a call. We're here to help!
Photo Contest: Pets in Costumes! Enter to win! :)
This month, we're hosting a new Photo Contest: Pets in Costumes! Share your best pic of your fluffy (or feathered, or scaly) friend outfitted in a Halloween costume, and you could win an Amazon gift card! Submit your photos anytime between now and Halloween--we'll have them posted on our site all October long--and your name will go into a raffle drawing. We'll draw three gift card winners the first week of November! Questions, or ready to submit? Go to nkcpl.org, or email abrown@nkcpl.org. Happy Halloweening!
