The pale gray background on this Charley Harper kitty cat* canvas is Byzantine Stitch, also known as a step stitch.  It gives texture and movement
 to this canvas.

Tip of the Month
Try Fluffy Fleece for Santa's Coat and Leg Cuffs

Rainbow Gallery's Fluffy Fleece is over-stitched on top of the canvas with needle and thread to create a curly, fur like effect.  Notice the cuffs on Santa's hat trim and arm cuffs below. It's a quick and easy alternative to doing Turkey Work or French Knots. It works well for beards and some animals also.
