The big “New and Emerging Artists” Exhibition fills both Alberta House galleries through October 31, and it’s pretty amazing. Artists range in age from 6, to seniors in a show that is colorful, upbeat and multi-media. The show was curated by Jeanne Tubman and most of the artists were her students at one time or another, but all of the paintings in this show were produced by individuals on their own. To bring out the shy ones, participation was made easy, with no fee for entry and no commission charged on work sold. Some of the work is for sale, and the buyer should know that every cent in a sale will go to the artist.
Small prizes will be awarded in a number of categories. The judge for the show is Diana Grenier of Cedarville, a multi-media artist and teacher with a well deserved, state-wide reputation.

Liz Brugman, our webmaster has put the entire exhibit, photographed by Jeanne Tubman, up on our website as a slide show!
Because of the virus, open hours in Alberta House have been reduced to Thursday, Friday and Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Masks are required and 6 foot social distancing, as well, except for family groups.  Masks are available at the desk for those who need them. They are free of charge, courtesy of fiber artist Karen Sutton Boger. Come out and visit a magnificent show!
Alberta House is located just south of West Portage Avenue, at 217 Ferris Street. Ferris is a short street that runs into Portage between the Seven Seas Motel and the VFW Hall, just south of the Soo Locks Visitors Center. Look for a tall, blue Victorian building with “ALBERTA HOUSE” painted right on the side. Admission is free of charge.

On Friday, October 2, 2020 the Michigan Supreme Court issued a ruling that limits the governor's use of executive orders during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This opens up many questions for small businesses about how to operate going forward. While we at SBAM expect there to be additional rules and orders using additional authority provisions, in the meantime we recommend following the best practices laid out by OSHA and the CDC. Click here for that guidance.
