PE Teacher Training Opportunity for your Town/School
Apply by Nov 20
Bike Walk CT has partnered with the Capitol Region Council of Governments (CRCOG) to offer train-the-trainer workshops across the state. These workshops are for educators to teach safe bicycling in health and physical education classes. This opportunity is a one day workshop presented by Bike Walk CT and will provide Connecticut educators with the resources, skills, and tools they need to implement and teach a comprehensive bicycle education program in elementary schools, specifically geared to train educators how to teach safe bicycling to 4th grade students. This workshop is the result of 9 years of curriculum refinement.

A total of 10 workshops will be awarded. Sessions can be conducted with individual schools and/or coordinated sessions can be conducted with multiple interested schools in a region or school district. Workshops are limited to 10 educators. The workshops are valued at $1,500 each and all materials will be provided.

The application deadline is November 20, 2020. Additional information can be found at www.crcog.org/cdcproject.
League of American Bicyclists Rethinks “Enforcement”
Earlier this month, the League of American Bicyclists (LAB) announced that it has officially and permanently removed ‘Enforcement’ as one of the pillars of the Bicycle Friendly America programs’ ‘5 E’ Framework. The remaining pillars are Engineering, Education, Encouragement, and Evaluation & Planning, with an overarching focus across all categories of Equity.

From the LAB: “These pillars are intended to guide communities in making bicycling safe and welcoming for everyone. But “Enforcement” does not equal “Safety” for many People of Color, particularly Black Americans.”
