Too Much Stuff: Why Persons Tend to Hoard
Wednesday Oct. 7, 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

NAMI NJ, and NAMI Sussex, in collaboration with the Mental Association in NJ, present: “Too Much Stuff” with Laverne Williams

People who have a tendency to hoard can accumulate so much “stuff” it overwhelms their lives, and family members and friends often do more harm than good in their attempts to help.

Laverne Williams, CSW, will discuss common beliefs around hoarding disorder, best practices to support someone with the disorder, and the financial and emotional costs to persons with the tendency to hoard and to their families and the community. She will provide evidence-based tools to assess the risk for hoarding disorder, as well as a case study practice for gaining entry into a home with too much stuff. She will also stress the need for a paradigm switch of language about hoarding disorder. Click here for flyer. Register here.

NAMI Sussex depends on the support of its members' annual dues to continue our work supporting, educating, and advocating for individuals and families affected by mental illness. Although we have over 800 Sussex County area residents on our NAMI Sussex email list, only about 40 are currently members. If you'd like to join for the first time, or want us to check whether your membership has lapsed, please email Membership Co-Chairs Jeri Doherty and Charles Cantelmo at nami.sussex@gmail.com. A membership donation is tax-deductible and covers membership in NAMI Sussex, NAMI New Jersey, and NAMI National. Membership numbers affect the strength of NAMI’s voice in advocating for legislation and funding to improve the lives of those affected by mental illness.  Members receive NAMI’s quarterly magazine, NAMI Advocate

To join NAMI online, click here, then go to "Become A Member" section.

There are three types of membership to choose from:  Regular (individual) for $40/year, Household for $60/year, or Open Door (individual only) for $5/year for anyone for whom the regular dues of $40 would be financially prohibitive.
