DEED RESTRICTION REMINDER
With 2020 campaign season underway, it is a good time to remind everyone that signs - including political signs - are not permitted in the community. We understand that everyone has an opinion on these matters but ask that you refrain from putting out yard signs so as not to be in violation. Thank you!

Clubhouse Opening October 1st

As announced at the September 24th Board of Directors meeting, the clubhouse will officially open on October 1st with additional restrictions to protect the community from COVID-19 infection. A 2020/2021 Club Somerset Clubhouse and Facilities Policies and Guidelines has been developed and is available below, on the website and in the clubhouse. A few key points from the Policies and Guidelines are:
  • A signed waiver is required for all residents to use the clubhouse and facilities.
  • A Youth Permission Form is required for all youth between the ages of 14 and 16 to use the clubhouse and facilities without a parent/guardian in attendance.
  • Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied and supervised by a parent/guardian.
  • Indoor occupancy is limited to 50 people, including staff.
  • Masks are required to be worn in the clubhouse.
  • Practice social distancing.
  • No guests will be allowed at this time.
  • Sanitizing wipes are available for residents to clean areas before and after use.
  • Stay home if any of the following apply to you: Do you have a body temperature that exceeds 99.5 degrees Fahrenheit? Do you have any of the following respiratory symptoms: cough, shortness of breath, severe sore throat, muscle aches, new loss of taste or smell? Have you, or someone in your household, had close, unprotected contact with a suspected or known COVID-19 patient? Have you, or someone in your household, had close, unprotected contact with a person with a test pending for COVID-19 infection? Have you traveled to an area where there are high amounts of COVID-19 cases?

Saturday - 11am to 9pm
Sunday - 1pm to 7pm

We are working on providing weekday hours to allow residents the use of the clubhouse. These hours will be finalized once a new Clubhouse Manager is in place. In the meantime, please call and leave a voice message at 610-274-0846 or email slakehouse@verizon.net if you have any questions. Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated.

As noted below under Fitness Committee, plans for opening the fitness level of the clubhouse are underway. More information will be coming soon.

Rentals
We will begin accepting reservations for rentals beginning October 1st for parties of 50 people or less. A copy of the rental agreement is here, on the website and at the clubhouse.

Clubhouse Use for Fall 2020 for School Aged Children
We understand that the school year will be challenging with virtual learning from home for both the children and the parents. Once the clubhouse is open we can serve the Somerset Lake community by offering meeting space within CDC guidelines and PA restrictions. Please contact the clubhouse to discuss your specific needs. Based upon information from interested residents we can put individual meeting space plans together. Thank you Laura Benincasa for contacting the clubhouse with this request.

Somerset Family Free Library
We are pleased to announce that the Somerset Family Free Library will open at the clubhouse on Saturday, October 3rd at 1pm-3pm. In a few weeks we will add hours on Wednesdays at 3pm-5pm.

Children under 14, accompanied by an adult, are welcome to choose books from the shelves in the newly renovated club room. Please note that this is NOT a babysitting service. Unaccompanied children will not be admitted. There will be no check out system. You are welcome to keep the books or return them later. We ask if you keep a book, replace it with another from your home so we always have enough for everyone. All returned books will be quarantined for 48 hours before they are returned to the shelf following CDC guidelines for libraries.

The 2020/2021 Club Somerset Clubhouse and Facilities Policies and Guidelines discussed above will be in effect for library related activities.

Special thanks go to the Laura Benincasa who donated the first batch of books, to Maggie Lage, who initiated the project and to our Librarians - Betsy Linville, Cathy Petrick and Mary Rycik - who have volunteered to run the program.

The Somerset Lending Librarians would like to thank all those who donated to our cause. We are delighted with the quality, diversity and condition of your gently used children's books. We are busy filling clubhouse shelves and look forward to opening our doors on October 3rd.

Happy Reading!

COMMITTEE SPOTLIGHT
Fitness Committee
The next fitness committee meeting will be October 15th at 7pm. The fitness committee is currently taking the necessary steps to have the fitness center reopened as soon as possible. Once everything is complete and the waiver process in place, we will notify the community, and will include all the necessary details.

Welcome Committee
Kaleidoscopes of color, spicy smells of autumn, crunching leaves and honking geese, apple cider and pumpkin pies.....Autumn is spreading her charms all around us! It is a wonderful season for newcomers to explore local farm markets, apple orchards, pumpkin patches, wineries, cider mills, gardens and hiking trails. Welcome to the neighborhood!
Events Committee
trick-treat-bucket.jpg
We have received questions whether there will be trick or treating in the community this year. We have made inquiries with local government, but have not received any answers on who determines whether trick or treating is officially scheduled.

Wouldn't it be great if the Somerset Lake Community could coordinate a Halloween event or activity for our children? I am happy to report that there is a small group forming to at least develop ideas to share with the community for events and activities! More information will be sent out in the near future, but in the meantime here is a link for Halloween ideas.

Now is the time to begin planning for holiday related events and activities, such as Halloween, Thanksgiving Food Drive, Luminaries, Holiday Lights Competition, etc. or to help with or initiate any other event during the year. Please volunteer! If you are only interested in one event that's great too! We need you!

If you are interested in helping, please email the clubhouse at slakehouse@verizon.net.
Lake Committee

Next Lake Committee Meeting is scheduled for October 8th at 6:30pm by remote web meeting.

There is an updated SLSC Boating Handout. A copy is available here, on the website or in the clubhouse.
Architectural Committee
Walking around the neighborhood, it is evident that quarantine may have slowed but certainly hasn’t stopped home projects…new roofs, exterior painting, landscaping. If any of these activities have given you the renovation itch, check out the contents of the sample closet. Please contact the clubhouse to make an appointment if you would like to see the sample closet.
Please refer to the displays of updated sample boards and binders outlining approved exterior paints/stains, trim paints, shutter styles/colors, roofing materials, etc. approved for each home series within the community BEFORE beginning a project. BEFORE you sign a contract to have any exterior work done, you first need to get Architectural Committee approval . Any new color requests or changes must also be approved by the Architectural Committee. This approval process may take up to a month. Please complete the Architectural Request Form found under the Document Links tab on the Somerset Lakes website (www.somersetlake.com) if you will be performing exterior work such as painting, staining, roofing, tree removal, window replacement, or hard scaping. This form can be downloaded and submitted electronically. Other specific guidelines (solar panel installation, approved roofing materials, shed installation, etc.) are also available under the Document Links tab.

If you have any questions or topics for the committee to address, please contact Cheri Hadley of Brandywine Valley Properties at (302) 293-8093 or cheri_prather@hotmail.com .As always, this volunteer Committee, in cooperation with Brandywine Valley Properties, Somerset Lake’s management company, will continue to review applications submitted by the Community for exterior home projects as well as handle requests for exceptions to the Community’s existing architectural policies.
Grounds Committee
Thank you Eddie Iglesias for sending in the photos of some of the work the Grounds Committee has done with the following update.

The Grounds Committee had this paver edge put in up at pool.

We have also been in the process of trimming trees along common areas as well as on lake side of broad run.

Buttonwood walking path will be widened in needed areas this fall

If you have any questions or would like to request improvements to any community spaces, please contact iglesiaseddie@yahoo.com.
Traffic Safety Committee

The Traffic Committee met with representatives from the Southern Chester County Regional Police Department and New Garden Township to discuss various issues the committee is going to address in the upcoming years. The main focus of the committee to date has been gathering information on options to reduce speeding within the neighborhood, and developing an implementation plan. Over the next several meetings the Committee will formalize their goals, and layout their plans for improving safety within Somerset Lake. Any resident interested in joining the committee should reach out to Chris Brendza at cbrendza@yahoo.com

Community Reminders

Old clubhouse Furniture
Before COVID restrictions we had grand plans to hold a garage sale to sell the old clubhouse furniture which has been stored in the garage. Unfortunately, the dampness we all experienced this summer has not been good for the furniture so it is not in as good of shape as we originally hoped. The furniture can be revived with some elbow grease. The best pieces were sold a few weeks ago, but we still have a garage full of furniture. Please contact the clubhouse if you are interested in acquiring a little bit of Club Somerset history for FREE or know of anyone or organization who would be interested. We would like to have the garage cleaned out before the end of October.
club chairs - bar stools - sofa - end & coffee tables - club tables - piano - secretary desk - TV stand - lockers
This bike was found in the upper parking lot. Please contact the clubhouse if you have any information regarding ownership. The bike is currently stored in the clubhouse garage.

On-going On-site Community Events (Classes and Clubs) have been canceled until further notice.
Since there are no yoga classes being conducted at the clubhouse at this time, we would like to clean up the Aerobics room. Please contact the clubhouse to retrieve any yoga mats, weights, or other exercise equipment you may have stored at the clubhouse by the end of October.
Call for Photos!
Please send to the clubhouse any community photos you would like considered for the next newsletter with your name. Photos need to be less than 5MB to be considered. Please send them to slakehouse@verizon.net.
