Join us for our Fall Refresh education and networking event
October 26 | 9:00 - 11:15 am
Education opportunity Our brain selects and inhibits information based on our motivations and needs. In this session, we will leverage results from recent neuroscience research on influence and persuasion to examine how the brain organizes information and impacts expectations and our relationships. We will explore a model that identifies five key motivational drivers for human behavior and decision making. Join us to learn how to put these five drivers into action to improve virtual and live experiences.
Networking The presentation will be followed by a networking event in which attendees will be using the interactive Remo platform. Remo is a gamechanger that allows attendees to have face-to-face networking online just like in-person events resulting in the opportunity for fun and engaging conversations.
Tables will be hosted by various Annual Industry Partner Sponsors, where you will experience table networking, activities and giveaways - Catching up with your association friends and colleagues has never been so entertaining and fun!
Remo for you? Take advantage of this opportunity to check out the Remo platform in action. Remo might just be the perfect option for one of your own upcoming meetings!

Creating the Next Normal: Helping leaders plan for 2021 and beyond
WSAE is pleased to promote this offering from Associations North. WSAE members can take advantage of member pricing. With so much uncertainty, it's challenging to plan or know what to expect one month from now, let alone six-months or a year. It's business as unusual and we're not going back to what was. We need to plan for the next normal. Join us for a four-part series with topics including: economic outlook, innovating non-dues revenue, strategy, governance and volunteerism.
The final session of this four-part series, Innovating Governance Systems + Processes for Success, is next Wednesday, October 21. CAE Credit available.

Wisconsin Center District Governance Committee Approves Resolution for Convention Center Expansion Financing
Estimated economic investment of $100 million in direct labor wages during construction
Milwaukee's Wisconsin Center District (WCD) Governance Committee has approved a resolution to finance the $420 million convention center expansion project. An anticipated ground-breaking date will be in late 2021, and the new building is expected to open in early 2024. This project will support at least 2,000 full-time equivalent jobs and $100 million in on- and off-site construction wages during construction. Additionally, the plan includes an already-approved 31 percent minority-owned-business clause (25 percent minority, 5 percent women-owned, 1 percent disabled veteran-owned), and 40 percent of on-site construction jobs will be dedicated to the Residents Preference Program for city and county resident-held positions. Once completed, the new convention center is projected to attract an additional 100,000 out-of-state visitors annually, stimulate at least $6.5 billion in total spending in the state over a 30-year period, and generate at least $150 million in incremental state income. Associations seek to navigate UBIT and virtual trade shows
Associations forced to transition in-person trade shows to virtual events as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic are carefully consulting existing guidance from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regarding virtual exhibit revenue and unrelated business income tax (UBIT). Longstanding congressional statute holds that revenue from traditional trade shows is exempt from UBIT if certain conditions are met, such as being conducted in connection with an international, national, state, regional, or local convention and being designed to promote the industry's products or services.
