We have also had really great feedback from students who have been taking the Ed2Go Career Planning Certificates. These are all offered online and examples can be found below.

Micro Credentials
We are excited to announce that the Certificate of Achievement in Tourism and Hospitality Management and the Permaculture Design Certificate micro-credentials are ready to launch with a first offering to students this November.

What is a micro-credential? Micro-credentials are short, flexible, quality-assured courses that provide learners with skills and competencies that are valued by industry and employers. These programs are typically made up of a series of smaller courses that culminate into a larger certification. They may be complementary to traditional credentials such as certificates, diplomas and degrees, or stand alone.
Alberta’s visitor economy holds great promise as a core pillar of economic diversification in the future. Hotel Operations and Management is fundamental in learning how to manage a property. This new micro-credential develops students’ learning on how to: develop the average daily rate, how to calculate revenue per room, forecasting techniques for hotel occupancy, and back-end accounting methodologies that occur in hotels.

Restaurant Leadership will offer students an opportunity to learn about the operational and financial side of owning or running a food services operation including issues such as food costing for menu development and staff development and leadership. Restaurant Marketing offers practical learning about connecting the image and design of an establishment with consumer demands and creating the experience that customers expect.

Permaculture is an exciting, evolving field that integrates nature’s patterns when designing outdoor spaces. Using permaculture is environmentally friendly and low maintenance.

Permaculture design principles can be applied to an individual’s backyard as well as municipal outdoor spaces. This course is foundational sustainable practices using ecological design and a requirement in MHC’s Agroecology Technician Diploma program.

South-eastern Alberta has a particularly arid climate and a location-specific course addressing these differences would better suit our region’s learners than those currently being offered.
