9 Must-Read Publications: Open Notes and Ethical Challenges
All innovations invite new challenges, and open notes are no different. Our goal is to empower both patients and clinicians, and for that we need to study the ethical implications of sharing clinical notes. What are the ethical consequences for patients when clinicians hide their documentation? How can clinicians optimize note sharing for the benefit of patients and their caregivers, while also upholding – and even enhancing – the accuracy and detail of the clinical record? By partnering with patients, can clinicians address complex ethical issues more effectively? These nine papers reflect some of the ethical questions we have explored.
