Get your binoculars and field guide ready to use after taking the newest class from birdwatcher Neil Hayward on Thursday, October 14, 2021. The theme is the Breeding Biology of Birds ( Course 10873). Hayward will blow the cover off the birds that cheat on their mates and reveal the strategies that nesting birds use to look after their young.
Hillary Spector returns with a series of classes on Gemology. Students may take them all or choose individual classes -- they are all gems. Starting with Diamonds ( Course 10670) on Thursday, October 14, 2021, the sequence continues with Pearls ( Course 10671) on October 21, 2021, Colored Gems ( Course 10672), a two-session course starting October 28, 2021, and concluding with Lab Identification and Precious Metals ( Course 10673) on November 18, 2021.

The following week, cruciverbalist Steven Manin will teach tips and tricks for solving crossword puzzles. Sharpen your pencils and learn the secrets to help you get through the challenges of Sunday's newspaper. Registration for the newly added Crossword Coach Workshop (Course 10878) is now open.

Also, please note this is our last call for the upcoming special event on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, from 7 to 8:30 pm, when SAS welcomes Three-term U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo (Course 10828). An internationally renowned performer and writer of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, Harjo will discuss her trailblazing life and career, as well as her second memoir, Poet Warrior (W.W. Norton, 2021).
