Celebrating 35 Years At City Theatrical
We’re celebrating the 35th anniversary of City Theatrical this year. Many very talented people have put a lot of their lives into growing City Theatrical, and it has been quite an adventure for all of us. We have always been a company of makers, and our culture has been about how we invent, manufacture, and customize unique lighting accessories. Thanks to all of our friends, customers, and colleagues around the world who have shared our journey and helped us over the years. Our 35th Anniversary PDF will help you catch up with all things City Theatrical from the last five years, as well as from day one in 1986. If you have visited our shop or come to our booth at a trade show, you will likely find your photo in this document!
Case Study: QolorFLEX + Multiverse At The Joyce
Photos Courtesy of The Joyce Theater
Leaders from The Joyce Theater in NYC were looking to update their theater’s lighting using LED tape, as part of a refresh to the entire theater. They sought an LED tape solution to replace the fluorescent and incandescent rope lighting in the lobby and loge area of the auditorium, and to gain brightness, efficiencies, and a clean, modern look. With a unique combination of 20 reels of QolorFLEX® 5-in-1 LED Tape controlled by 10 QolorFLEX 5x8A Dimmers, 35 reels of QolorFLEX LED Tape controlled by 10 QolorFLEX 5x2.5A Multiverse® Dimmers, numerous QolorFLEX Accessories and one Multiverse Transmitter, they were able to create their desired lighting effects just in time for an exciting Fall 2021 lineup.
"We are using Multiverse wireless DMX on the 900MHz band in our space since we are working with a large amount of steel beams and obstructions between the main Multiverse Transmitter and QolorFLEX 5x2.5A Multiverse Dimmers."

QolorFLEX NuNeon At Duke Dumont At The Shrine
When British DJ Duke Dumont was looking for an asymmetrical, central set piece to unveil at his Shrine Auditorium performance in Los Angeles and kick off his new tour, Set Designer Cort Lawrence and Lighting Designer Chris Thoms sought a flexible LED linear lighting solution that could be bright enough to stand out in the darkness, and rugged enough to stand multi-year, multi-continent travel. When the tour's fabricator, Rise Fabrication, started building the set piece, the design teams were first introduced to QolorFLEX NuNeon™. Together, they used a combination of 48 reels of QolorFLEX NuNeon, RGB and QolorFLEX 24x3A Dimmers to create the set piece, which amazed the artist and audiences alike.

"Touring isn’t easy. QolorFLEX NuNeon has been a pleasure to use. There’s nothing out there that is close to what it can do. And, it is rugged and will last."

Interview: Jeff Croiter On Freestyle Love Supreme

Ever wonder what it’s like to design the lighting for a show that changes every night? We talked to lighting designer Jeff Croiter to learn more about his work for Freestyle Love Supreme, which re-opened at the Booth Theatre in New York on October 19, 2021, and will continue after its Broadway run until January 2, 2022 as a national tour. Here’s what we learned about how this lighting design for the sixth iteration of the show is completely different from those in the past, and what common elements bring each show's design together.
"We wanted a bright neon sign that could change color, and be able to tour with the show. QolorFLEX NuNeon gives us what we wanted and needed – something bright, vibrant, and colorful, with the flexibility and durability to last."

- Jeff Croiter, Lighting Designer for Freestyle Love Supreme
