From Our President

Dear Council of 101 members,

October is the month to embrace our membership and look towards increasing our numbers by inviting a guest or two to attend our annual Homecoming Meeting on October 28. We look forward to honoring our Sustainers and Past Presidents; all those that have brought us to where we are today. Please make plans to attend. It's always the perfect time to come together, reconnect with old friends and meet new ones. 

Speaking of new friends, I am pleased to announce we have a new friend in the office. We have hired Kelley Gorden to be our Office Administrator/Manager and her first day of work was October 11. She comes to us with an administrative background from Disney and enjoys her family time with her husband and 10 year old son. Please call or email the office to warmly welcome her on board and look forward to seeing her at our meeting. She has come in at a very busy time on our calendar so we all need to practice patience with our office requests as she quickly comes up to speed. She has spent time with several board members and has had training with Paula which has been most helpful. 

Our Festival of Trees committees have been hard at work and have planned a spectacular event full of Sparkling Holiday Traditions. I hope you all will attend our opening night gala with friends and family. It will be full of festivities with fabulous entertainment, delicious food and flowing cocktails. It is worth noting we are now allowed to enjoy red wine in the museum. 

This newsletter is full of important member information so please review and volunteer where you can.

I am looking forward to seeing you all on the 28th!

of Art.


We also send condolences to the Meyer family upon the death of Sissy’s husband, Chuck Meyer.

The Council of 101 printed yearbook is ready for pick up. It will be available at the October general meeting.

Overall Design can use any available hands to accomplished some general tasks such as battery installation and taping.

We need your help, and plan on meeting at the Museum on every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 am to noon during the month of October.

GIFT CARDS NEEDED FOR SENIOR'S DAY

Seniors’ Day this year will be on Tuesday November 16th! We will have 2 groups of entertainers and a Trivia game. The seniors LOVE this and get prizes for the correct answers to fun questions. 

We need your help in gathering gift cards for the winners from Publix, Target or from your favorite restaurant! Please drop off at the Council of 101 office.

NEWS FROM MEMBERSHIP TREASURER: MEMBERSHIP OBLIGATION for
FESTIVAL OF TREES

As the excitement grows for 35th Anniversary Festival of Trees Sparkling Holiday Traditions, it is time to purchase your tickets! This year the purchase of all tickets on the Councilof101.org will be applied towards your membership obligation.

You may click the link here Councilof101.org or go to "Membership Obligations" under the Apply for Membership tab, membership obligations to purchase tickets.

The 2021 Membership Obligation for Festival of Trees is $150 for Actives and Provisionals, and $100 for Associates.

Sustainers and Friends are welcome and encouraged to purchase tickets on the Councilof101.org to avoid purchase fees on Eventbrite; where all other tickets will be sold to the public.  

If you would prefer to purchase your tickets by check, please click the link Here, download the 2021 Festival of Trees Member Obligation form and mail or drop it off in the office with your ticket selections and payment. 

Please note, purchases through the Councilof101.org do not require a 2021 Festival of Trees Member Obligation form.

We ask that you purchase your obligation all at once to better track how much you have spent towards your obligation. You can double check your purchases by signing into Councilof101.org and clicking on your name at the top right.

Please purchase your membership obligation tickets no later than Monday, November 1st, 2021. Tickets will be available for pick up in the Council of 101 office by Friday, November 5th, 2021.

Gala tickets, Tree Lighting + Gala tickets and VIP Gala tickets will be available at Check-In the night of the event.

MARKETING AND MEDIA

Postcards are in the mail, Gala invitations are in production and Central Florida is all a buzz about the Festival of Trees! 

Have you seen the latest article in the Orlando Sentinel ? There is more to come! In fact, billboards through OutFront Media, stories and promotions through Bungalower, and print ads through Orange Appeal, Southwest Bulletin and Central Florida Lifestyle magazine are in the mix too!

You can also click on this handy LinkTree link to see all the opportunities on our website for Festival of Trees.

You can help with marketing in three immediate ways too! 

First, record a video clip and send it in, with a description, to my email at [email protected]. or the [email protected]. The video clips will build a story, closer to the Festival opening, about this 35 year tradition and how it is coming to life for this season.

Second, learn more about social media and how to take action. Click on this link for a quick "how to" on navigating our social media pages and why using a hashtag is important, thanks to Stephanie Giordano. 

Each member has the power to build our social media presence. Try it! Be part of the Social Solution -- Post pictures and stories about your committee's actions to your own pages with photos, videos and use the hashtag #festivaloftreesorlando.

Also, note that the two social media accounts we use are Festival of Trees Orlando on Facebook and Councilof101OMA on Instagram. The Council of 101 FB page is being deactivated.

Finally, check out our Council of 101 website. Elizabeth Bell has been busily keeping it up to date to align with marketing. Remember, we have a website form for adding information to our Councilof101.org website. If you have an update for the website, a marketing suggestion or other inputs, please complete the form and send it to [email protected] or call me at

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

A big thank you to the Membership Committee and all of those who helped us plan and deliver the first Mix & Mingle last month. Over 50 people including seventeen guests attended and we will follow up with them to encourage them to volunteer for Festival of Trees and become Provisionals in the spring.
