I can not believe October is almost over.
What happened to September?
Did I sleep through it?
Well it is here and that means the days are getting shorter and the nights are drawing in. Getting up early is a bit of a chore now isn’t it and I loath to turn my heating on just yet, when there are perfectly good jumpers in my closet!
Before we know it we will be ho ho ho’ing and Christmas will be knocking on the door.
Have you planned your Christmas party yet?
Dates are filling up fast so do get in touch.

We are thrilled to announce, albeit a little late… a… wait for it… drum roll please…..
Supper Club!
Yes. Very long overdue I know and very excitedly, we are hosting the East Dulwich Supper Club in partnership with a fundraiser for the Dulwich WI at Fifty Seven.
We are cooking up an utterly delicious four course dinner on Thursday, 28th October and Friday, 29th October. BOOK NOW.
As this is a fundraiser, we will be holding a raffle with incredibly good and generous prizes from many of our local businesses. Do bring along a few extra quid to buy a ticket on the night.

Let's talk about Fifty Seven...
|
As many of you may have seen lately, we are now offering a reduced menu and our perfectly delightful hot drinks and cold juices, smoothies and cocktails. This is due to a shortage of chefs in the industry (but we will come on to that later).
Currently we are open at Fifty Seven
Tuesday to Friday 9.00am – 4.00pm and we welcome you to bring your work with you. All we ask is that you buy a coffee and a bite to eat.
We are now opening on a Saturday evening for your hedonistically healthy cocktails, local craft beers and wines from indie suppliers.
We are open on a Sunday morning too for a very good Bloody Mary, bit of a hangover cure breakfast and a coffee or two!
If you are pondering a party that may be too big for home then give us a shout. We offer a number of options from Dinner, through to Cocktails and Canapes, or even an Afternoon Tea. All can be enjoyed at the Fifty Seven Lounge or we can offer exclusive hire of the restaurant.

OK. So we are very lucky and have the most incredible team around us. We have utterly brilliant chefs, front of house staff, bar staff and porters but the hospitality industry is far from perfect right now. There is a massive shortage of staff and we are only as good as team!
|
|
In order to retain our team, and given that we are in a highly competitive market right now, we may have to make adjustments to the shift patterns (with advance notice of course) and offer our team a premium, that way, we can continue to offer the level of service you have all become accustomed to.
(oh, and if you are reading this and are a committed hospitality professional, do get in touch – we are looking to increase our team!)

Sustainable food should not 'cost the earth'
|
What is different now to 18 months ago? Well it seems that many of you have done some long hard thinking in that time and realised that our planet is worth saving after all!
We have always been at the forefront of sustainable catering and events, from planning through to the pure joy of knowing your event has a very low carbon footprint. We offer a seasonal, organic and sustainable menu (SOS Great British Menu we like to say!), we have Great British Wines, we buy from small indie companies like ourselves, we employ local people and pay London Living Wage!
|
|
|
We prefer (and encourage) you to have tap water and have a locally sourced sugar free soft drinks selection. We bought all of our equipment for our newly refurbished kitchen from UK suppliers and proudly offset our carbon emissions by planting British Broad Leaf Trees when we use our vans. We have thought of everything (I hope) even down to our water usage electricity and gas (thank goodness) so when you host an event Suzanne James Caterers, rest assured, it will not 'cost the earth'!
|
|
With so many price increases in every industry, we are now seeing this filter through to our suppliers and its not just the gas and electricity either. Sadly we are experiencing an increase in the price of everything from food and fuel, to rentals and radishes. This now means we have no choice but to forward on to our clients. Where possible we have absorbed the increase but it is getting much more serious now, and we will not be in business for much longer unless we pass this on. It's coming, and its not pretty, so please accept our apologies in advance.

Work remotely works for us!
Thank you Pandemic for allowing us the opportunity to trial this option, having spent 20 years believing that bums on seats was the way of the world.
It is honestly the best thing that could have happened and has allowed us to retain the best in the business. So, if you receive an email at an ungodly hour, please do not panic, we are very happy working at times to suit the 'new normal' and will be back with you asap.
As always, sending virtual hugs, love & best wishes to you all,
Suzanne James x
