MAGNOLIA CENTER OFFICIALLY RENAMED ROBERTA CERRI TEGLIA CENTER
On Saturday, September 25, the City of South San Francisco celebrated the renaming of Magnolia Center (601 Grand Avenue) to Roberta Cerri Teglia Center in a special ceremony including Ms. Teglia and her family.
Ms. Teglia was born and raised in South San Francisco and was the City’s first female planning commissioner, Councilwoman, and Mayor. She served as Mayor four times over the course of her City Council career, spanning from 1978 – 1995, and “broke all sorts of barriers in achieving those positions,” says Mayor Addiego. During her City Council tenure, Ms. Teglia advocated for many projects and programs that enriched the lives of residents, was a strong advocate for Senior Services, and was on the City Council for the funding, planning, and building of the Magnolia Senior Center. “It is a past-due honor for our first woman Councilmember, dedicated educator, and civic leader by renaming Magnolia Center after her,” added Mayor Addiego.
This is the first of the two community centers to be renamed after trailblazing women who have made an impact on the South San Francisco community. For more information, view the staff report presented to City Council at their March 24, 2021 meeting.
