300 NEW JOBS IN DISTRICT 2
Oxygen Development Expands Manufacturing Operations
Creating 300 New Jobs

Oxygen Development, LLC is expanding its Palm Springs manufacturing facility that will result in the creation of 300 new jobs with an average salary of $42,692. This $20.4M project is supported with funding from the Palm Beach County Section 108 Loan Program and Fifth Third Bank, as well as a U.S. Small Business Administration First Capital Finance Corporation.

Oxygen Development is a world-class leader in the development and production of high quality color cosmetics, skin care, hair care, and other over-the-counter products. They serve as an outsourcing partner to major global brands, both domestically and internationally. In 2010, Palm Beach County assisted Oxygen through a loan to support the current 220,000 square-foot headquarters, which has created 1,200 new jobs to date. The company is now expanding its operations to include a new 160,000 square-foot facility to manufacture nutraceuticals.

“I’m excited that Oxygen Development continues to make investments in our county creating hundreds of additional jobs, and I’m thankful to our Economic Development staff who have been instrumental in facilitating Oxygen’s growth in Palm Beach County,” said Commissioner Gregg Weiss.

MUST DIAL 561 AREA CODE
On July 16, 2020, the FCC adopted rules to establish 988 as the new, nationwide, easy-to-remember 3-digit phone number for Americans in crisis to connect with suicide prevention and mental health crisis counselors.

Due to this change, and the fact that there is a 988 exchange within the 561 area code, we are one of the areas designated across the United States required to use 10 digit dialing beginning this week.

You MUST dial the area code, even if you are dialing a local
number from your cell phone or landline.

If you only dial using 7 digits you will begin to get a message that your call cannot be completed and that you need to hang up and use the area code.

BE CYBER SMART
PHISHING & SPOOFING

Phishing attacks use email or malicious websites to infect your machine with malware and viruses to collect personal and financial information. Cybercriminals attempt to lure users to click on a link or open an attachment that infects their computers, creating vulnerabilities for criminals to use to attack.

Phishing emails may appear to come from a real financial institution, e-commerce site, government agency, or any other service, business, or individual. The email may also request personal information such as account numbers, passwords, or Social Security numbers.

When users respond with the information or click on a link, attackers use it to access users’ accounts.

Spoofing attacks use email addresses, sender names, phone numbers, or website URLs that are disguised as a trusted source. Cybercriminals attempt to deceive users by changing one letter, symbol, or number within the name.

This tactic is used to convince users that they are interacting with a familiar source. Cybercriminals want you to believe these spoofed communications are real to lead you to download malicious software, send money, or disclose personal, financial, or other sensitive information.

HOW CRIMINALS LURE YOU IN

The following messages from the Federal Trade Commission’s OnGuardOnline are examples of what attackers may email or text when phishing for sensitive information:

• “We suspect an unauthorized transaction on your account. To ensure that your account is not compromised, please click the link below, and confirm your identity.”
• “During our regular verification of accounts, we couldn’t verify your information. Please click here to update and verify your information.”
• "Our records indicate that your account was overcharged. You must call us within 7 days to receive your refund."

SIMPLE TIPS

• Play hard to get with strangers. Links in email and online posts are often the way cybercriminals compromise your computer. If you’re unsure who an email is from—even if the details appear accurate—do not respond, and do not click on any links or attachments found in that email. If you are concerned about the legitimacy of an email, call the company directly.

• Think before you act. Be wary of communications that implore you to act immediately. Many phishing emails attempt to create a sense of urgency, causing the recipient to fear their account or information is in jeopardy.

• Protect your personal information. Cyber criminals can also use social engineering with these details to try to manipulate you into skipping normal security protocols.

• Be wary of hyperlinks. Avoid clicking on hyperlinks in emails and hover over links to verify authenticity.

• Double your login protection. Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) to ensure that the only person who has access to your account is you. Use it for email, banking, social media, and any other service that requires logging in.

• Shake up your password protocol. According to National Institute of Standards and Technology guidance, you should consider using the longest password or passphrase permissible.

• Install and update anti-virus software. Make sure all of your computers, Internet of Things devices, phones, and tablets are equipped with regularly updated antivirus software, firewalls, email filters, and anti-spyware.

COMMISSIONER WEISS IN THE COMMUNITY
FEEDING THE HOMELESS
Commissioner Gregg Weiss partnered with ICNA Relief South Florida to feed the homeless in Palm Beach County.

Tahsin Nabid, Operations Manager, and volunteers worked hard to coordinate the food, transport it, unpack it and set it up and serve it at The Senator Philip D. Lewis Center in WPB.

ICNA Relief will provide a hot meal at the center once a month for the next few months with a grant they received for this great cause.

"ONLY ONE ME DAY EVENT"
Commissioner Gregg Weiss used his artistic skills (and got a little messy in the process) alongside Benoist Farms Elementary School students at their fun and educational yearly event “Only One Me Day.”

Students read the book “Only One You” and then went outside to paint their own individual rocks and placed them in the rock garden.

The purpose of this event is to teach children about the differences that exist among people and how to respect those differences.
