Data Analyst - October To Do List:

  • October Catch: Review student outcome data of office discipline referral (ODR) data for your building. These data can assist with looking at the whole picture of your school-identifying possible patterns, and also identifying students in your building who may benefit from more targeted supports. Using ODR in October as a screening tool is called the October Catch! Learn more here.

  • Take the TFI: Consider taking the Tiered Fidelity Inventory (TFI) to measure TIER I PBIS fidelity of implementation. This information could assist your PBIS team with determining action steps moving forward this year. Learn more here.

  • Take the SAS: Consider taking the Self-Assessment Survey (SAS) with your entire staff. This information could assist your PBIS team with understanding staff perceptions of PBIS implementation and guide action steps moving forward this year. Learn more here.

Supporting Students in the Classroom
from Rachel Cox Raverty, MSW, BSSW, LGSW
PBIS Connect: Classroom Practices
Interested in creating a calmer, quieter classroom space for students? Try implementing these simple strategies!

  1. Reduce the noise level—try using carpet (if possible), tennis balls on chair legs and carpet pieces on the end of desks legs.
  2. Assess the soundscape of the room—if you notice humming lights or pipes, talk to custodial staff to see what can be done to help.
  3. Provide headphones for students who are easily distracted or frustrated by voices and other noises.
  4. Set a relaxing tone—ask students if they are interested in soft music or white noise while working at their desks.
  5. Furniture layout—arrange objects in a way that discourage running and decrease student tendencies to distract each other.
  6. Stay organized—clutter is overwhelming and anxiety-provoking for students and staff.
  7. Provide non-distracting means for students to use energy, such as silent fidgets or Play-Doh.
  8. Provide visual reminders or daily and monthly schedules.
  9. Create a quiet area that individual students can receive instruction/assistance from the teacher without distracting peers.
  10. Encourage students to keep their items/areas organized while working quietly, and reward them for following through.

Are you interested in learning more about supporting students in the classroom? This webinar will will explore addressing internalizing behaviors in the classroom such as students experiencing anxiety and how to effectively provide a positive learning environment for all students.

Target Audience: Any PBIS team member interested in learning simple ideas to support students in the classroom.
