October 2022 GVCO Newsletter

Director's Message
With the start of the new school year this September feels more “back to normal” versus the past couple of Septembers. GVCO’s programming has also been trending toward “normal”, getting many families back engaged and doing some great things.
In early September our Caring Hands student volunteer community service group hit the ground running by helping out with a number of initiatives each & every weekend. GVCO onboarded 14 high school interns in mid-September. These HS juniors and seniors assist with any number of GVCO’s administrative tasks, most of which is accomplished in the 2 hours immediately following the school day. Our youth cheer, football and crew programs have seen participation numbers back to pre-pandemic levels and all the kids and families are having a great time all these outdoor activities during this great time of year.

After a 8 month hiatus the new GVCO Community Center project has also re-engaged. After receiving a $750,000 RACP grant in December from the State of PA, the State had reviewed our original grant request and awarded us the additional $600,000 that we had requested in March of 2021. This was all great news however it required a good deal of compliance, regulatory due diligence and documentation, which all required time. All seems to be in good order, so look for steady progress on the 1st phase of the facility in the coming months. We will keep the entire community in touch with the progress and timeline, as we renew our efforts with scheduled messaging through Constant Contact and our social media outlets.
GVCO will continue to bring back all of the great programming we have offered for the past 20+ years. This past September has been a breadth of fresh air. Once again great stuff for our Great Valley community.

GVBL 2022-23 Winter Basketball League
Registration for GVBL Winter Rec League is now open. This will be our 22nd year of bringing the GV community this outstanding youth basketball program. 500+ kids have already registered - don't miss out!

Once again due to the limited amount of gym space, the GVBL Winter Rec League will be open to ONLY GVSD residents with limited spots per division. GVBL will once again offer divisions for girls and boys in grades 1-8 and a boys HS division. Skills Assessments will begin 10/17.
Want to sponsor a team?

The program includes the business or corporate sponsor name featured on the jerseys of one of our 75+ youth basketball teams, along with multiple "touch points" throughout the season on our numerous GVCO communiqués (website, newsletters, updates, social media, etc.). Complete and return the required shirt sponsorship form by October 24th.
Great Valley Crew
Our Crew team is comprised of boys and girls in grades 8-12. Their practices began in August in preparation for regattas in Philadelphia, NJ and DE. While the team had good results at King's Head, the river was too high this past weekend for the Head of the Christina Regatta.
Great Valley Football and Cheer

Our Cheer and football players were troopers and played on Sunday in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. Games were cancelled for our K-1 squads.

The Siddhant Suresh Scholarship Fund

The Suresh fund was created to honor the memory of Siddhant Suresh, a wonderful son and brother, beloved community member and an outstanding student who loved basketball and chess. Siddhant was a GVBL tournament team and recreation league player, who enjoyed the sport and played it with great team spirit and enthusiasm.

Over two years, this fund has awarded nearly two thousand dollars in scholarships to help many Great Valley children and families participate in GVCO programming.
