Fall is in the air, and we’ve got pumpkin to talk about.

On October 21st, we returned to Arata Farms Pumpkin Patch for the annual fall employee outing. Our team explored the giant maze, shrieked through the haunted mansion, stole away on hayrides and got close up and friendly with the farm animals at the petting zoo.

We picked our favorite pumpkins then headed over to Cameron’s Pub & Restaurant for lunch and the highly anticipated annual HK pumpkin carving contest.

Congratulations to this year’s winner, Calvin Nguyen, for his thoughtful tribute to our colleague Sarah Chayra for her wedding day, which was October 22, 2022! 

We also snuck in an appreciation toast and gifts for the HK bosses for a belated Boss’s Day, and then we closed out the event with a birthday celebration for Jim Hoover.

Domestic violence can greatly complicate a divorce. It can have a significant impact on custody as well as financial matters. 

Ernest Baello, Of Counsel helps create awareness during Domestic Violence Awareness Month by speaking with divorce reporter, Ilyssa Panitz to discuss domestic violence and divorce in

family law in California.

Sudie Hsu, Certified Divorce Real Estate Expert and Residential Realtor with Coldwell Banker, recently invited Jim Hoover to participate in a video series which will cover hot topics relating to real estate and divorce. Segment one is now available, so be sure to tune in as Sudie and Jim discuss the California divorce process including the 4-D stage and whether parties need to go to court.  

Domestic Violence Awareness Month is a time to support not only survivors, but the domestic violence intervention organizations and support services available. This month, our spotlight is on Jewish Family and Children Services (JFCS). Since 1950, JFCS has served and support families within San Francisco, Marin, Sonoma, Santa Clara, and San Mateo counties. They offer over 40 programs to support those with disabilities, home care, mental health and more.

Included in their lineup of programs is The Dream Program to assist women and children who have experienced domestic violence. The Dream Program aims to create a safe and supported environment for victims to recover and regain their lives. Services include training programs and counseling, and referrals to legal support, medical services, education programs, and much more.

HK had the opportunity to collaborate with Lucinda Layton, Residential Realtor with Coldwell Banker, for her family’s annual One Warm Coat Drive. One Warm Coat is a national non-profit organization with a mission to provide free coats to children and adults in need while promoting volunteerism and environmental sustainability.

This year, Lucinda’s family has set a goal to collect 200 coats and raise $500. HK was able to fill a large box of coats, jackets, gloves, and beanies to this fundraiser. Thank you to Julie Smith, Accounts Coordinator and Mario Fernandez, Legal Administrative Assistant, for jumping in and spearheading our support to this good cause.
