San Francisco SMART Course

IGOT hosted 22 orthopaedic surgeons representing 16 countries for the 11th Annual San Francisco SMART Course. The two-day course utilized innovative educational workshops including a surgical simulation lab to teach limb saving techniques.  These techniques can save limbs and save lives for victims of trauma.

North American Traveling Fellows

Five North American Traveling Fellows visited the Orthopaedic Trauma Institute. Drs. Richard Coughlin and Sanjeev Sabharwal gave the fellows a tour and discussed IGOT's history, mission, and work over the last 15 years. To read more about their experiences, click here

Orthopaedic Trauma Association

IGOT's global orthopaedic work was highlighted at the Annual Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA) in Tampa, FL. Podium presentations were given by IGOT team members and international partners on studies being conducted in Tanzania, Ghana, Argentina, and across Latin America.

Cuba SMART Course

The IGOT team delivered a two-day SMART Course in Havana, Cuba. One hundred and fifteen orthopaedic and plastic surgeons attended the course to learn techniques on open fracture and wound management.

Leadership Development Course

Dr. Ted Miclau, one of IGOT'S Executive Committee members, delivered a 2nd Annual Leadership Development module to 40 orthopaedic surgeon-leaders attending the Annual Mexican Federation of Orthopedic and Traumatology (FEMECOT) at the XXXII FEMECOT Congress in Veracruz, Mexico. 

ACTUAR/FEMECOT

ACTUAR (Asociación de Cirujanos Traumatólogos de las Américas) was honored to participate along with the International Orthopaedic Trauma Association (IOTA) as partner organizations at the Annual Mexican Federation of Orthopedic and Traumatology (FEMECOT) at the XXXII FEMECOT Congress in Veracruz, Mexico. Dr. Ted Miclau chaired a special session for ACTUAR surgeons and Dr. Nicolas Lee presented on hand and upper extremity trauma. A total of 3,180 orthopedic surgeons participated. This is the third outstanding collaboration between ACTUAR, IOTA, and FEMECOT.
