A Stunning Success Our first in person Fall Gala since 2019 was a stunning success! We are so grateful for everyone who bought tickets, sponsored tables, bid on auction items and supported our work. It's because of all of you that this was our biggest Gala ever. Salmon River Restoration Sylvie Hawkes, Conservation Field Crew Supervisor with The Nature Trust’s Vancouver Island Field Crew, tells the story of breaching the artificial causeway at the Salmon River and installing walking bridges to maintain the trail system. This large-scale project will help restore the natural function of the estuary which has been heavily impacted by the causeways for nearly a hundred years. Since 1978, The Nature Trust has conserved 847 acres at the Salmon River.  Read the story here.

An Extraordinary Gift The Englishman River- Kw'a'luxw - Emil Anderson Legacy Forest On September 26, at Top Bridge in the Englishman River Conservation area near Parksville, The Nature Trust was pleased to announce the addition of The Englishman River – Kw’a’luxw – Emil Anderson Legacy Forest to the conservation complex. The Emil Anderson Group donated the 71-acre property, adjacent to the existing complex, along with all the acquisition and land transfer expenses, and an endowment to ensure the property will be cared for into the future. The total value of the donation is more than $5 million. This is the highest value land donation ever received by The Nature Trust! We had the opportunity to sit down with Mike Jacobs, Chair of Emil Anderson Group for a Conversation on Conservation. Read his story here. Meteor Lake Wetland - We are so close to saving this important habitat The Nature Trust of British Columbia has the opportunity to purchase four parcels of land near Meteor Lake in Northern BC. The 235-hectare Meteor Lake Wetland - Bog is located about 70 km east northeast of Prince George and connects to one of the largest wetlands in the Upper Fraser River valley. It is located within the traditional territory of the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation. The Meteor Lake Wetland - Bog contains many rare wetland associations, including peatland ecosystems consisting of bogs and fens. Peatlands play a critical role in mitigating the impacts of climate change and biodiversity loss within British Columbia. They retain significant amounts of greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide and methane, making peatlands the ideal carbon sink – an area in which carbon can be contained rather than released into the atmosphere.
