Volunteers Prepare for 2022 Membership Appreciation Banquet

2019 Membership Appreciation Banquet

The Evites have been sent and volunteers are lined up to stir the pot, hand out drinks, and welcome current and new members come 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 18. If you are a member there is no cost. If you need to renew or become a member, please sign up via nunucollective.org, or by stopping in at NUNU collective prior to the banquet. If you still have not had a chance to do so, there will be volunteers helping to check members in at the door.

Along with a delicious Seafood Gumbo, or alternative Louisiana Wild Rice Pilaf with Vegetables, members attending the Oct. 18 banquet will be invited to tour new Makerspace studios, will be introduced to new leadership and will be presented an update on (re)NU renovations and future programming, events and goals.

ART EVENTS/EXHIBITS

Application deadline for

"Land of Misfit Toys" exhibit is Oct. 9

Artists seeking to participate in the upcoming "Introspection - Land of Misfit Toys" exhibit have through Sunday, Oct. 9 to submit their applications. The exhibit runs Nov. 3 - Dec. 31 at NUNU Arts and Culture Collective. Artists are asked to produce new work in response to a theme that honors beauty shaped by one's inward broken pieces.

"We are all broken in some way, but its all the shattered pieces that give us depth. Like stained glass, it's how the pieces and colors fit together that truly makes us beautiful." - Adriana Law, "Falling for a Bentley."

There is a participation fee of $25 for artist members; and $50 for non-member artists, which includes an annual membership. For more information and a printable copy of the application, visit nunucollective.org

The public is invited to meet exhibiting artists during its monthly 11 a.m.-4 p.m., second Saturday, Oct. 8 artists reception. Deux Bayous Gallery is open 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Thursday-Sunday.

La Table Française - 9:30-11:30 a.m., Oct. 29. A monthly gatherings of French language speakers and learners, meets at the Arnaudville Community Center. Leading the gathering is Saint Luc French Immersion and Cultural Campus Board President Mavis Arnaud Frugé.

Indigenous Cultural Heritage Table - noon-2 p.m., Oct. 29. Gathering of persons interested in learning about and sharing information. October meeting is hosted by Biloxi-Chitimacha Tribal Member Donna Billiot.

Meet volunteer David P. Morrow,

Technology Director extraordinaire

Artist and videographer David P. Morrow of Arnaudville has since March gifted NUNU Arts and Culture Collective with his visual design talents, technology knowledge, and most of all, patience. He has rescued many a frayed nerve when computers and programs prove difficult, and has assisted with the purchase of new equipment, saving NUNU collective from near exploding screens.

His design talents have provided NUNU events with compact and impressive informational posts, now all linked and driving a progressively growing social media following. He manages NUNU collective's current Website while building another for launch in 2023. He documents events and activities with photographs and in September, produced a collaborative work of art with fellow artist Janelle Hebert. After viewing "Murmuration," Hebert's installation of 900 origami birds in flight, Morrow created a body of photographic images that celebrate her work anew.

He is a volunteer, and stands alongside the many other volunteers who support and shape NUNU collective.

Acadiana Center for the Arts forms plans

The Acadiana Center for the Arts (ACA) Board of Directors met Sept 30 at NUNU collective for its annual Strategic Planning Retreat. ACA is one of nine regional arts councils under the state Division of the Arts. Its mission is to foster arts and culture in Acadiana.
