Two Catholic School Principals Receive National Award

U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona has announced nine school leaders across the country as recipients of the Terrel H. Bell Award for Outstanding School Leadership, a list which includes two private school principals.

Amy Sample, principal of Saint Xavier High School in Louisville, KY, and Sister Teresa Ballisty, principal of Saints Philip and James School in Exton, PA, will be honored during the National Blue Ribbon Schools awards ceremony on November 16 in Washington, D.C.

U.S. House Committee Holds Hearing on School Choice

On October 25, the House Ways & Means Committee held a hearing on school choice. The panel of witnesses, which included Corey DeAngelis and Hera Varmah with the American Federation for Children, and Sharon Sedlar with Pennsylvania Families for Education Choice, spoke in favor of legislation that would create a national tax credit scholarship program.

Concerns Over New Department of Education Diploma Validity Rule

The U.S. Department of Education has finalized new regulations that change the process institutions of higher education must use to validate high school diplomas when students apply for Title IV federal student loans and grants.

Report: School Choice Policies Do Not Raise Private School Tuition

According to a new report from the Heritage Foundation, "Critics claim that K–12 education subsidies will put inflationary pressure on K–12 schools, just as higher education subsidies have increased college costs. But the K–12 education system and the education choice policies differ in important ways from higher education. Data show that, contrary to these claims, states that have adopted school choice had lower rates of private elementary school tuition increases with no discernable effect on private high school tuition rates."
