~ October 2023 ~

Hello CVOA,

Message from the President . . . . .

Greetings CVOA members,

Sugarloaf Homecoming, October 7-9, is just a week away. For me, it signals the transition to ski-think. Will I be able to cram my feet into those boots again this season? Can I remember, in the thicket of poles, which ones are mine? What did I cleverly do with my season pass? Are my skis at the condo or the ski shop? Where are my batteries, and when should I start charging them? These and other First-World problems will confront me, as I sweep and drive the flies out of our winter home. But I get excited about this change each year and look forward to snow needing shoveling and lifts that turn.

CVOA has a booth in the Main Lodge during Saturday and Sunday of Homecoming. It can be found on the lower level across from skier services, just inside the lower entry door. We hope you’ll drop by and say “hello” to your fellow members staffing the table. You can easily renew your CVOA membership with cash or a check. If you know newcomers to Valley life, please send them to the CVOA table where we can introduce them to CVOA outdoor activities and social events.

Speaking of activities, unfortunately the Whistler Ski trip had to be canceled as there was not enough interest to make this trip successful. The Heavenly Ski trip has been expanded to accommodate its waiting list and some of the skiers who had signed up for Whistler. The Italy trip remains full with a waiting list and Quebec is nearly full.

At our meeting last spring, members expressed interest in a trip to Chile in the summer of 2024. We are exploring the possibility of a 9 day trip in late August/ September to Valle Nevado and would like to know whether there is sufficient member interest for such a trip and who might be interested in serving as its trip leader. If you’re at Homecoming, here is another reason to drop by our table and offer your thoughts on this unique opportunity.

Quebec

March 18-March 22, 2024

An interesting resort town associated with a ski area is a nice amenity. But occasionally there are pairings where both the town and the resort are top notch. One of these unique associations is Quebec City and its surrounding ski areas, Stoneham, Mont Ste Anne and Le Massif. Add the feel of France, a wide scenic river and great restaurants, and you have the makings of a great ski week.

The price includes four nights at the hotel with full breakfast, and three days of lift tickets for $885 US per person based on double occupancy. The trip brochure contains all the details.

We have received reservations from nearly 40 people who will enjoy this uniquely French city and its ski areas. We may have one room left at Le Hotel Manoir Victoria. If you haven’t sent in a reservation and are interested, please Contact Thom Johnston ASAP, 207-852-3595 or [email protected]

Man the grill, or the take the cash? Also, I have youth bows for folks to play with for an activity, but I need folks to help supervise at the archery range. No bow experience necessary. I will provide the education. I just need another pair of eyes to keep everyone safe.
