Israeli Staff members - Summer '22 |
From Havi, our CEO...
Much has been written about the consumption of our news from specific sources which alters how our minds interpret the headlines, social media posts, and articles. We live in a fast-paced environment, making decisions quickly based on the information at hand, at the moment. Individuals and groups may interpret and relate religious texts to current events or conflicts in a more concentrated or deliberate way.
One does not need to state the complexities of the Israel-Hamas conflict or that it is a sensitive topic. Discussions about the topic are typically centered around politics, history, and regional issues rather than specific religious texts.
In this week’s Parshat, Noach, we are presented with one of the most famous stories in the Bible, the story of Noah and the Ark. At its core, this narrative is not just about the great flood and a massive boat; it’s a story about resilience, faith, and the importance of doing the right thing, even when it is difficult.
Years ago, the Foundation for Jewish Camp and the Hiddur Initiative paired up to explore the components necessary to make mensches, to create individuals who can make decisions based on Jewish values. Making Mensches: A Periodic Table remains an important display of the complexities and balance required to make the right decision.
At camp, we reflect on the same values and components to help our campers and counselors become mensches. In Parshat Noach, we focus on ethics, righteousness, and moral behavior. Camp counselors and educators may use the story to encourage campers to think about how they can be better people and make ethical choices in their lives. The Parshat also highlights the importance of cooperation, unity, and working together to overcome challenges. Jewish summer camp often emphasizes teamwork and community building, and this story can be a source of inspiration for these values.
Equally, I am struck by Noach’s strength and pure confidence in the path ahead. Likewise, in each of my discussions with Israeli family, friends, colleagues, and partners over the last week, the reverberating message they wanted me to internalize was, “We’re ok, we’re strong. We will get through this moment.” Similar to the Flood, the Jewish people are strong.
In Parshat Noach, the vibrant and beautiful colors of the rainbow convey a message of hope. It symbolizes the end of a turbulent and devastating period and the dawn of a new beginning. Please, let there be more rainbows ahead.
This Shabbat, please join me in praying for the State of Israel, for the hostages to be released unharmed, for the families grieving the loss of loved ones and for the rainbows to appear in due time.
Am Israel Chai.

Payment Policy Update
The following is an important change to our policy for processing late tuition payments: Unpaid tuition due by the payment dates will be charged to the default credit card on account (which is typically the last card used to make a payment on your account) with the processing fee added. We encourage you to be mindful of the payment due dates (below), especially when scheduling payments with your bank’s bill pay service or the mailing time required for check payments to be delivered.
Declined credit card payments are subject to additional late and rebilling fees.
Reminder: Timeline of Payment Due Dates:
January 13, 2024 – 50% of all additional fees in excess of the deposit are due
March 1, 2024 – The remaining balance of fees is due
For registrations that occur between March 1, 2024, and May 31, 2024, the application fee can be charged at no additional cost. The balance is due within 14 days of enrollment confirmation, which allows for a check payment to arrive.
For registrations after May 31, 2024, payment in full for all fees is due with application and is subject to credit/debit card processing fees.
Please contact our finance team with any questions at info@capitalcamps.org.

Our trip to Capital Camps in Waynesboro, PA for Family Camp Weekend was truly exceptional, and we wholeheartedly recommend it to families seeking an unforgettable experience. This weekend was a perfect blend of adventure and bonding for everyone in the family.
One of the highlights was the thrilling zip-lining activity. Soaring through the treetops was an exhilarating experience that left us with lasting memories. We also indulged our creative sides with arts and crafts!
We even learned how to play pickle-ball! And of course, no camping experience would be complete without s'mores by the campfire.
The food at Capital Camps was outstanding and some of the best down-home Jewish cooking you can get. But what sets Capital Camps apart is their commitment to creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere. The staff's dedication to making our weekend special was evident in every aspect of our stay, from the well-organized activities to the attentive service.
Our Family Camp Weekend was a remarkable experience, combining adventure, creativity, and delicious cuisine in a welcoming environment. We would highly recommend this opportunity for families looking to create lasting memories together.
