In December, Helen Lee leads a walking tour of Mood of the Moment, Gaby Aghion and the House of Chloé at The Jewish Museum (Course 12252) on Monday afternoon, December 4, 2023. The exhibit honors the legacy of Gaby Aghion, the Jewish entrepreneur who founded Chloé, the French fashion house. With nearly 150 garments as well as sketches and documents from the Chloé's 70-year archive, the exhibit highlights Aghion’s vision of effortless, luxurious, ready-to-wear fashion, and the work of iconic designers who began their careers with the brand, including Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, and Phoebe Philo.
The following week, Dina Gerasia introduces Enheduanna and Women in Ancient Mesopotamia (Course 12101) on Monday morning, December 11, 2023. Learn about the first known author in world literature, a Mesopotamian woman in the 3rd millennium B.C., whose writings left an indelible mark on later religious and mythological texts. Examine the art and culture of that time and what they reveal about the role of women in the social, economic, religious, and political realms.
