Autumn Greetings!

Dear friends,

We hope you are all enjoying this beautiful (and often rainy) fall. We were so happy to see so many smiling faces, familiar faces and new faces too, at SandwichFest on October 7th. Thank you so much for stopping by and saying hi!

Earlier this month, our owner Vicky Titcomb and our manager Rae Titcomb attended the New England Independent Bookseller Conference in Providence, RI. It was the 50th anniversary of the conference (wow!) They were so excited to see so many friends and fellow booksellers, meet some authors, as well as soak up all the wonderful bookseller knowledge.

This photo is of Rae and Vicky at the conference when they met Meghan Riordan Jarvis, author of a brand new memoir End of the Hour: A Therapist's Memoir (on sale November 14th).

Jarvis is originally from the Cape and said that her children call our bookstore "Papa's bookstore" because their grandfather always took them here!

We love this story! And we send many congratulations to Meghan for the publication of her new book!

As spooky season approaches, we have a few events featuring books to get you in the mood:

  • Our October Branch Out Book Club pick is the creepy horror book What Moves the Dead which is a re-telling of Edgar Allen Poe's "Fall of the House of Usher." Come join us for our discussion on Monday Oct 23rd at 6:30pm, we don't bite!

We know it feels a bit early to start thinking about the holiday season, but we are gearing up at the shop for all your holiday needs! Right now, we have advent calendars and Christmas cards galore, if you'd like to get a head start.

Heads up! Starting the first week of November, we will send out our Holiday Gift Guide Newsletters! During the holiday season, we send out Holiday Gift Guides with different themes. For example: Children's Books, Teen Books & Gifts, Toy Gift Guide, Titcomb's Favorites, & more! These carefully curated guides will make your holiday shopping easy and fun!

Thank you for reading!

"It gets under the skin of this extraordinary time in a way that few historical novels do. Sayles writes superbly about the confusion of warfare and deals equally well with the horrors of the plantations...This is a first-rate historical novel told with wit, verve and a subtle understanding of the mechanics of the genre."

Being Henry: The Fonz . . . and Beyond

Signed Copies Available

On Sale Oct 31st

Vicky Recommends:

"I loved reading about Henry Winkler's Hollywood experiences from The Fonz to Barry, but what makes this memoir truly shine is his humanity and insight. Henry is dyslexic and he shares his stories of a very painful childhood and unloving parents, his loving marriage, proud parenthood, as well as his lifelong struggle to overcome feelings of inferiority and anxiety. Told with great warmth, insight honesty and humor, this is wonderful read!"

The Woman in Me

On Sale Oct 24th

The Woman in Me is a brave and astonishingly moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope. Written with remarkable candor and humor, Spears’s groundbreaking book illuminates the enduring power of music and love—and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms, at last.

The House of Doors

Vicky Recommends:

"The House of Doors is a fascinating and exquisitely written novel of love, hypocrisy, racism, murder and betrayal set in Penang, Malaya in the early 1900s. We meet bestselling author Somerset Maugham and Ethel Proudlock whose sensational trial for the murder of the man who raped her became the inspiration for one of Maugham's most famous short stories. The Chinese revolutionary Sun Yat Sen makes an appearance as well. This is a fabulous read!"

The Unmaking of June Farrow

Meghan Recommends:

"This is the perfect recommendation for those who love Alice Hoffman and The Time Traveler's Wife. A time travelling mystery that will tug on your heartstrings, I was moved to tears and hugged the book after finishing. Set in Western North Carolina across time, this story follows June as she learns about herself, uncovers the mystery of her family, and discovers what lengths she'll go for the people she loves."

Breaking Through: My Life in Science

A powerful memoir from Katalin Karikó, winner of the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, whose decades-long research led to the COVID-19 vaccines.

Breaking Through isn’t just the story of an extraordinary woman. It’s an indictment of closed-minded thinking and a testament to one woman’s commitment to laboring intensely in obscurity—knowing she might never be recognized in a culture that is driven by prestige, power, and privilege—because she believed her work would save lives.

Over My Dead Body: Unearthing the Hidden History of America's Cemeteries

Journalist Greg Melville’s Over My Dead Body is an “astonishing . . . fascinating . . . powerful” (New York Times Book Review) tour through the history of US cemeteries that explores how, where, and why we bury our dead.

“You hold in your hands a treasure map, a gentle, sly, and poignant presence leading us to places in America and in our lives that have been hiding in plain sight. This tale is about cemeteries, but it’s really about how beautiful is life.” —#1 New York Times bestselling author Doug Stanton

An Accordion Book doesn't open, it unfolds. One side is filled with beautiful watercolor images of an animal: sometimes in motion, sometimes at rest. The other is filled with text - poems, descriptions, invocations - inspired by the same animal. Together they work as spells to summon the animal's spirit. Jackie Morris has painted them using antique watercolors, some from boxes which hadn't been opened for over 150 years, woken from their slumber with a single drop of water.
