October 2023: News, Updates & Resources

Selah: A Young Adults Retreat

Earlier this month, our NYI Young Adults had the opportunity to practice ‘Presence over Production’ at our second annual young adult's retreat, Selah.

Several young adult groups from across the Metro NY District gathered together from October 13th - 15th at Pinebrook Retreat Center in East Stroudsberg, PATrue to this years' theme, this retreat was an intentional time to pause the daily grind and pursue the presence of God in an intimate, no-frills setting.

Pastor Andrea Sawtelle (Young Adult/Next-Gen Pastor from Immanuel Church in Lansdale, PA) was our guest speaker for the weekend; inviting us to accept the Lord’s invitation into His rest. By the end of the weekend, the group left feeling renewed and reenergized to live out God’s purpose in their lives back at home.

We are beyond thankful for what the Lord has done and is continuing to do with our district’s young adults. Please continue to keep them in your prayers, and stay tuned for the announcement for next year’s retreat! If you have any questions on how to get connected with more events like this, feel free to reach out to Rev. Tito Rivera ([email protected]) or Rev. Chris Balbi ([email protected]).

Nazarene Benefits USA (NBUSA) has simplified and expanded the benefit we contribute to the accounts of Nazarene 403(b) participants, so you could receive a match of up to $2,500 annually. That’s $2,500 which, with earnings and contributions from you and your employer, could grow into a substantial retirement nest egg.

We will explain how the match works in a live one-hour Zoom workshop called The Path to Retire Well. NBUSA Executive Director Kevin P. Gilmore will share details and answer questions.

The workshop will be presented on four dates, each at noon Central time. To register, just select the date below that works best for you:

Pastor Sam introduced a District-wide call to prayer earlier this year, and has renewed his request to carry us through April 2024.

Join in this focused prayer initiative in your own congregations, daily prayers, and regional clergy gatherings this fall.

Our last clergy gathering will be held via Zoom, November 15th at 7PM. Thank you to The Bridge, Butler COTN, and First Community Church for hosting each of our regional gatherings over the past month.

We look forward to offering more opportunities to join together for prayer in January! Be sure to keep an eye on the link below and social media for updates as they become available.

Musicians Needed!

If you or someone you know is a talented musician, and is willing to travel within the Metro NY District, please email Susan Magnuson and let her know. Many churches on our district are in need of musicians to assist in their Sunday services and we would love to be a resource for connecting those individuals. Please know that stipends may or may not be available and is based on the discretion and financial ability of the church in need.
