Thank You for all Your Gansett Fest and Calamari Festival Efforts!
We want to send out an incredible amount of gratitude in the wake of our weather-related cancelled Gansett Fest and Calamari Cookoff Event, which, no doubt, would have been an enormous success.
The town, local businesses, competitors, and the community as a whole were terrific to work with from sponsorships to squid and everything else in between.
Thanks to all of you who planned to attend the Gansett Fest. Mother nature just wouldn’t cooperate, so safety came first!
We invite you to please visit or support those restaurants that planned on competing. Many of them have some amazing fall specials! It's a great way to show them the love by going out to dinner and, of course, ordering some calamari off the menu. The competitors were:
Coast Guard House
Georges of Galilee
Town Dock
Iggy’s
Rosa’s Tavern
Weekapaug Golf Club
The Surf Shack
Luigi’s
39 West
Thank you!

Local historian Dr. O’Neill addressing a group outside of Idelwilde, the first stop along the Walking Tour of Boon Street. | |
Boon Street Was Booming
Boon Street was booming on Sunday September 17th ! Planned as part of Park and Rec’s annual Gansett Days, The Narragansett Historical Society held a Walking Tour of Boon Street highlighting seven historic locations.
The small group tours were oversubscribed with nearly 150 people enjoying a stroll down Boon Street and learning about these historic landmarks along the way. Authentically dressed period actors from the Contemporary Theatre Company took on the local personas of residents from 1896 and led the groups to each site where docents explained the history, fun-facts and unique characteristics of each structure. With the help of Mother Nature and beautiful weather, serenades of melodious music from a barbershop quartet, participation from Abbott Properties, The Bike Stop Café, Gansett Goods, and the Kitchen at the Shack, as well as gilded-age games for children at the LeRoy Thompson Memorial Playground, a wonderful day was had by all. “I never knew our little town was so rich with history and so many fun facts,” one guest remarked, “Fascinating!”
We would like to express our thanks to the Chamber of Commerce for their effort in promoting this event as part of Gansett Days. Special thanks also to our event sponsor Arnold Lumber, as well as the Fitzpatrick Team at RE/MAX, the Contemporary Theater Company, and our treasurer, Donna Rodgers, who along with numerous volunteers, collectively enabled the event to be a homerun.
