GOING INFINITE
By Michael Lewis

‘Going Infinite’ is like watching a rocket blaze through the stratosphere, only to fizzle and self destruct, leaving an immense debris field in its wake. Like an accident, it is hard to look away. And like many disasters, FTX’s fatal flaw was from its inception. Sam Bankman-Fried is a modern day idiot savant, as flawed as he is brilliant, and many who were fascinated by his brilliance suffered great financial loss. Michael Lewis does his best to convey the complexities of this ‘enfant terrible,’ leaving the reader to apportion blame. A highly compelling read.

LET US DESCEND
By Jesmyn Ward
(releases October 24, 2023)

I felt transported into this powerful, young slave girl's hellish journey. Annis survives the hardships all around her by recognizing she is also surrounded by the spirit of her warrior great grandmother. Annis escapes into this spirit, and through it knows the love of generations of women who came before her. Mesmerizing tale of the connection of life and what lies just beyond.

CHENNEVILLE
by Paulette Jiles

The latest novel by the author of News of the World once again focuses on the lawless West immediately following the Civil War. Union soldier John Chenneville returns to his St. Louis home to recuperate after suffering a grievous head wound. Upon learning that his sister and her family have been brutally murdered, John embarks on a journey across Texas to hunt down the murderer. What ensues is classic Jiles--beautiful landscape descriptions, fabulous characters and a well-honed history of the Reconstruction in a fractured American West.

CONGRATULATIONS, THE BEST IS OVER!
By R. Eric Thomas

Much like his other book “Here For It,” R. Eric Thomas’s latest “Congratulations, the Best is Over!” is a laugh out loud collection of smart, self-deprecating essays. Although he touches on serious themes like the pandemic, depression, grief, and inclusion, he makes it a joyful, comedic ride. His wit and occasionally tongue-in-cheek writing is equal parts social commentary and comedy. I’ll read anything he writes (I also recommend Libro.fm for this one since it’s especially entertaining on audio)!
