OCTOBER

HALLOWEEN SAFETY

Trick-or-treaters will be in our neighborhoods soon, so be alert while driving. Slow down and watch for people walking between parked cars or from behind shrubbery. As always, avoid looking at your phone and report drunk drivers. When trick-or-treating, be sure to use sidewalks and cross walks!

Our Pet of the Month is Rusty, ID # A233573. He is a one-year-old tan and white pit bull mix. Rusty walks well on a leash and loves dog treats. He gets along great with other dogs and people. Rusty also likes to gallop around you in the dog park.

His adoption fee is only $20! This includes a microchip, vaccinations, deworming, and neutering.

DISTRICT UPDATES

UPDATES FROM YOUR BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

District 1: Supervisor Larry Micari

October is event season and I’ve been on the road throughout District 1 visiting our community and checking on services. I presented a proclamation to Jennifer Welch Nicholson of Riata Ranch for her induction into the Cowboy Hall of Fame, attended the Purple Party to support the work of Family Services of Tulare County, attended a Traffic Incident Management meeting in Farmersville, celebrated Fall in Exeter, congratulated the Cattlewoman and Cattleman of the Year, and more. Our community is doing great things and I do my best to recognize it all.

Red Ribbon Week is also observed in October and this year’s theme is “Be Kind To Your Mind. Live Drug Free.™” The theme is about making positive choices to be happy and healthy. I encourage you to make positive choices for yourself and help those around you make good choices too. Let’s keep building good communities in Tulare County.

October has been a month of milestones for District 2. We’ve seen our communities driven forward by growth, anniversaries, and supportive programs. The COS Tulare Campus celebrated their 10th anniversary and houses agriculture, architecture, and technology and trades programs. Reaching Higher hosted a quarterly CarePortal gathering and continues to connect vulnerable children and families with people in the community who can help. Santa Fe Commons opened this month in Tulare and offers 81 affordable rental units with wraparound services. And just this morning, Allensworth Elementary School held a groundbreaking for new classrooms. It's wonderful to see growth in this historic community. Thank you to everyone who has been part of the positive growth in every corner of our community.

Next up is Halloween! Please be safe by taking a flashlight, checking candy before anyone takes a bite, and slowing down while you’re driving through Tulare County.

This month has a been a whirlwind of events and meetings, but today’s Health & Human Services All Staff meeting reminded me of how many good people we have on our County team and how many Tulare County residents they help each day. People and good work are the foundation of every event and meeting I attend. October may be busy, but the people and the work are worth it. Some of the events I was lucky enough to attend include the Tulare County Employee Health Fair to get my flu shot, the SCE Multicultural Celebration, serving as emcee for the Tulare County Historical Society BBQ and the United Way Breakfast, welcoming a new business to Visalia, sharing a Parks update with the Visalia County Center Rotary, enjoying an Evening Under the Oaks at Kaweah Oaks Preserve, and so much more.

For my fellow dog lovers: Tulare County Animal Services and San Francisco SPCA are teaming up to provide free dog vaccines on November 9! Learn more and pre-register at tcanimalservices.org.

October is a busy time for us all, and 2023 is not exception! We celebrated College Corp Signing Day in Fresno. Speakers encouraged Californians to improve their communities, respond to disasters, build community, and strengthen our state through service.

There were many successful fundraising events for many of our nonprofits, a testament to the generosity of our community. The Cutler-Orosi Lion's Club Classic Car Night was a hit, with people of all ages enjoying the festivities.

I went to Sacramento to learn about the 1991 and 2011 Realignment, the way the State helps fill the gap in areas of law enforcement and health needs. I attended a few meetings focused on forest management and health, which are crucial topics for District Four. As we move forward into this busy time of year, let's continue to work together and finish strong. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication.

This time of year seems to be full of events. We are recognizing the efforts of our coworkers and volunteers as well as planning for the future of organizations and associations. In fact, there have been many successes county-wide this year that we can be proud of, especially since we accomplished them together!

My schedule of events included National Night Out, Tule River Improvement Joint Powers Authority (TRIJPA) / Success Reservoir Enlargement Project (SREP) meeting, SCE Multicultural Celebration, Sustainable Corridors Committee meeting, Sierra View Foundation Rock N Roll for a Cause event emcee, TC Council on Child and Youth Development legislative event, Springville Apple Festival costume contests judge, Noche de Fiesta dinner, and many more. I’ll see everyone on Saturday, October 28 at the Veterans Homecoming Queen pageant – I’ll be your emcee!
