Examine artistic movements from the previous century with Bob Potter, one of SAS's newer instructors.

Having already led classes this term on the masterworks in the Yale Center for British Art's collection and on three generations of artists in the Wyeths family, Potter's next focus will be on Great Photographers of the Twentieth Century (Course 12087). Through photographs, biographical study, and videos, explore the camera's eye and how leading photographers of the twentieth century revolutionized the art of photography. Potter will cover the transformative works of Alfred Stieglitz, Man Ray, Dorothea Lange, Ansel Adams, and Cindy Sherman in an illustrated and informative lecture at 11am on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.

Potter returns on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at 11 am for Modern Artists of Mid-Twentieth Century New York City (Course 12088). Understand how New York became the epicenter of modern art through the visions of a new generation of artists such as Frank Stella, William de Kooning, Helen Frankenthaler, and Jasper Johns. Visual images, videos, profiles of the artists, and historical context illustrate the artists’ paintings and the changing historical events and artistic movements that influenced their work.
