With temperatures in the 40’s and 50’s for the foreseeable future, it seems that the recreation season has come to a wrap. Great job everyone on a safe summer! We appreciate everyone being flexible regarding navigation elements associated with the hydraulic dredging equipment on the water. It was an ongoing effort to keep the Bean Blossom channel marked and boating traffic moving in the safest possible manor. Regarding the dredging operations, over 120,000 yards of material have been removed from the Bean Blossom Creek delta area. This is a resounding success for the initial dredging phase and a much needed proof-of-concept for hydraulic dredging as a new sediment management tool within Lake Lemon. Lastly regarding dredging, LLCD is currently soliciting bids for continued hydraulic dredging in the 2024 season.
Regarding proof-of-concept, this year was also a tremendous success at assessing the viability of non-boating events as both fundraising and community building mechanisms. The inaugural Lemon Drop Polar Plunge and the Riddle Point Boogie received accolades from both resident and non-resident Lake Lemon enthusiasts. These events have really gotten the wheels turning for revenue generating opportunities that utilize our wonderful resources, but do not result in additional boating traffic.
Though we will no longer be on the water this season, LLCD staff will continue our diligent work throughout the winter months to ensure a successful 2024 season, ongoing restoration projects, and of course maintaining our impeccable governance as verified by our recent audit. Beginning November 1st, LLCD winter office hours will be by appointment only through March 1st, 2024. If you need to meet in person, please call or email to set up a time.
Finally, we would like to thank everyone that participated in the recent survey. Often, we only hear from those that are less than enthused. It is revitalizing to know that all our hard work doesn’t go unnoticed, and that a majority of Freeholders have a level of understanding and acceptance of what it takes to ensure Lake Lemon remains a viable recreation destination for generations to come.
As always, it’s a pleasure to serve,
Adam Casey
