Freeholders and Friends of the Lake,

What a gorgeous showing Mother Nature has given us from this unseasonably warm weather until today...brrrrr! The view from the office this fall has been stunning. If you have any photos you'd like to share, please upload them here.

Adam and Ross were out on the barge removing debris from the creek last week and captured this gorgeous video view of the lake and fall shoreline. We just had to share.

Keep reading for fall and winter deets that will affect many of you.

Lake Manager's Corner

With temperatures in the 40’s and 50’s for the foreseeable future, it seems that the recreation season has come to a wrap. Great job everyone on a safe summer! We appreciate everyone being flexible regarding navigation elements associated with the hydraulic dredging equipment on the water. It was an ongoing effort to keep the Bean Blossom channel marked and boating traffic moving in the safest possible manor. Regarding the dredging operations, over 120,000 yards of material have been removed from the Bean Blossom Creek delta area. This is a resounding success for the initial dredging phase and a much needed proof-of-concept for hydraulic dredging as a new sediment management tool within Lake Lemon. Lastly regarding dredging, LLCD is currently soliciting bids for continued hydraulic dredging in the 2024 season.

Regarding proof-of-concept, this year was also a tremendous success at assessing the viability of non-boating events as both fundraising and community building mechanisms. The inaugural Lemon Drop Polar Plunge and the Riddle Point Boogie received accolades from both resident and non-resident Lake Lemon enthusiasts. These events have really gotten the wheels turning for revenue generating opportunities that utilize our wonderful resources, but do not result in additional boating traffic.

Though we will no longer be on the water this season, LLCD staff will continue our diligent work throughout the winter months to ensure a successful 2024 season, ongoing restoration projects, and of course maintaining our impeccable governance as verified by our recent audit. Beginning November 1st, LLCD winter office hours will be by appointment only through March 1st, 2024. If you need to meet in person, please call or email to set up a time.

Finally, we would like to thank everyone that participated in the recent survey. Often, we only hear from those that are less than enthused. It is revitalizing to know that all our hard work doesn’t go unnoticed, and that a majority of Freeholders have a level of understanding and acceptance of what it takes to ensure Lake Lemon remains a viable recreation destination for generations to come.

As always, it’s a pleasure to serve,

Adam Casey

Capital Funding Campaign

We are moving forward in our work to solicit charitable donations for the good of Lake Lemon. We received almost 30 Freeholder and friends of the lake email addresses who wish to learn more.

What would encourage you to donate tax-deductible funds to Lake Lemon? Maybe naming a new bathhouse? Perhaps a new stage &/or amphitheater in Riddle Point Park? A pickle ball court? We sincerely want to hear from you. Email Us!

End of year giving? If you are interested in making a tax-deductible year-end donation to the Lake through the Community Foundation of either Monroe or Brown County, please reach out to the office for information.

PS If you missed the initial findings about the capital funding campaign you can see those HERE.

2nd Annual Lemon Drop Polar Plunge

This January we are thrilled to once again open up Riddle Point Park beach for a chilly dip in the lake! Last year was the inaugural plunge and we weren't quite sure what to expect. We hosted over 100 plungers and raised over $2,000 for Lake Lemon.

This year we are going all out. First...prizes! You can register as an individual or as a team. The individual AND the team who bring in the largest donations will both receive prizes. Also...are you into costumes!?? The best costume will receive a prize!

Every plunger who makes a donation over $35 will receive a one of a kind embroidered beanie on the day of the event (must be present to receive). Trust me, you want this to keep that noggin' warm!

Join and enjoy your gorgeous lake during the cold and quiet winter season, while bringing in donations that will help provide protection of our natural resource, sediment control, and for the common good of Lake Lemon.

We will have several large warming fires, hot cocoa, coffee, music, and all of the fun. Last year we even had some IU rowing and swimming team members take the plunge, and this year we've had multiple fraternities and sororities sign up. Click the button below and register today...join us!!!
