Harvest season is in full swing! We were blessed with some great weather to start out, but that was inevitably bound to change. We now find ourselves in a bit of a rain delay, receiving around 0.75” over the last several days. Thankfully, it looks like most of the soybeans have been harvested around the county, with the exception of a few fields. Corn harvest is also moving right along but is starting to look like it could be a grind to the finish due to persistently high grain moisture levels. Hopefully we will get another stretch of good weather get a little more natural drying, but I’m not sure we should count on that.

I had the pleasure last week of hosting one of four training seminars for Agricultural Lenders put on by OSU Extension around the state. We had nearly 40 in attendance here in Urbana from a variety of banks and other financial institutions that serve agricultural businesses and farms. This is a neat program that serves as continuing education for those in the banking field. I’m glad for the opportunity to be a part of it.

There is an exciting program coming up that I would like to make special mention of. The 2023 Climate Smart Conference will be held on November 30th, at Der Dutchman in Plain City. This conference will include a variety of topics pertaining to farming in extreme weather, with many great speakers. More information can be found below, along with the registration link.
